Exclamation Personal Growth in Sobriety Weekender Sept 16th - Part 1

It's hard to know if I have grown. I mean I look around and see a different world. I feel a different beat in my life and my days. I do different things and celebrate in different ways than I once did. The darkness that hung perpetually over my head? Well, it's now only in passing. The shadow it casts falls away much more quickly to again reveal a brightness once thought to have been lost forever.

Being an alcoholic and a drug addict, placing trust in anything seems a fools game. But growth implies a trust. A trust that I am different. That I won't soon repeat the insanity of my past. It's not about outgrowing something. It's about growing into something else.

I know one thing I will never outgrow. SR. I have been a faithful follower since I first joined in 2012. Through many heartaches and painful painful events I came here to seek help. I found open arms and open minds. Tough love at times for certain. You folks tell it like it is.

SR has a way of providing a watermark that tells me if I am too high or too low. I respect it and hope to always be able to contribute.

Without question the weekender saved me many times. Mecanix helped me week in and week out. I think I have a friend in him for all time. Or at least I hope I do. And that goes for many here. We may never meet but that doesn't mean a thing.

In the sprit of growth in my sobriety I am going to end my run as the host of the weekender. I was not going to mention it in the OP because this thread is never about one person. It's about all of us getting through till Monday together.

I decided that I need to take a break from the hosting gig and pass the starting control over to the mods for safe keeping. The thread will continue as it always has. The idea of getting through a weekend sober is important to newcomers just learning to get their sober legs. I will be right here to support them and all of you every week. Just not as host.

And for all the conspiracy theorist's out there... no Dee did not show up at my door on his motorized scooter asking for the keys back. I contacted him and we made arrangements. I can reassure you that he indicated to me that he is committed to keeping this thread alive, active, healthy and hopeful. Just the same as all of SR.

OK... Who is ready? Can you hear that? The busses are pulling up.

Welcome to your sober weekend!!!!

Thank you!!!!!!!!!

Ken

Ken, your contribution cannot be overstated...
It's good to see the many 'new faces' joining the weekender every week.
Hope to see more and more...

edit: you as well K,

early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise... not too sure about that, but it gives me a lot more time in the morning to get started, catching up...

OK folks... I need to head into work a bit earlier than normal today. I have a bunch of things I want to get done early. Then I get to relax all afternoon.

Yes LB... I have lots of time in the mornings to start off and get things done. I sometimes have all my chores done on a Saturday by 8am. Then I think what the hell am I going to do now?

Yes... Congrats Midnight!

I see lunar lurking!

Here!

Great intro Ken!

Other than high triglycerides,
good results on blood work yesterday.
I was a little worried about the results.
PSA, Cholesterol, everything else good.
Very thankful for this.
Very thankful for SR.

Tri's will go start going down, now that it's day 53.

Have a fantastic weekend, everyone!

Hilarious, Ken!

We've got to stop skyping each

great news on the blood work lunar... get rid of fatty meats and eat oats every morning = amazing results, I'm slooooooooooooooooowly shedding pounds... which is good... approaching a buck-nintey
just printed out the bathymetry survey of marsh creek lake, on 8.5x11 = need bigger glasses the big chart is online but I don't have the equipment to print it, or the patience to figure out if I can section it... planning my attack for a fall musky... a 40 incher will be success... there are known 50" in this lake - many in the three foot range...

LB, About 18 years ago, they stocked full strain
musky in a local reservoir here. A few years later,
we went there, scoped it out with a finder.
Found them in 16-24', in submerged timber.

We lowered down big green sunnies, bluegill and jumbo yellow perch.
Hooked and lost 5 fish in as many hours. (before the fluorocarbon revolution) One looked like a crocodile.
Later on, we found this wasn't "proper",
as per the compendium.

Moral of the story: If you think your lure
looks ridiculously oversized, it ain't.
Not for musky.
I caught my heaviest LM bass on a 7/8 oz. "muskie" spinnerbait.
7lb 14 oz. (NJ)

haha lunar, well if the compendium is willing to provide me with $$ for said lures, I'll be fine... I don't have the cash to drop for a couple of them thar big lures... was actually planning to get me a cheap rubber ducky and dress it up to use in the spring... I do have a couple striper flies that should work... big and flashy... troll with kayak... ?????????????????

people do use live bait here... almost a necessity...

edit: they put full and tigers in this lake... tigers are very aggressive critters - pike/musky hybrid

anyway, back to not drinking for the weekend...

LOL.
What I meant was the use of
game fish as bait, is illegal here.
(but man did it work, until we read the regs).
"Fish of 1000 casts"
HAHAHAHA.

Try a monster spinnerbait or a saltwater shad-rap.
