Hello SR Friends :)

Hi all, just wanted to say hi and check in. I'm very happy to say that I reached 9 months sober on the 5'th of this month.

I started my sober journey on Dec 5 of last year, and after hundreds, maybe thousands, of failed attempts I have finally managed to stay sober.
For those that are still struggling , it truly can be done, if you want it bad enough.

I guess I did it the hard way. I didn't reach out for face to face help, I didn't join AA or any other recovery group outside of this forum. I still consider it sometimes however because getting sober alone is a very lonely experience.

Occasionally I still get a desire to drink but it is a brief feeling, and I'm able to redirect my thoughts. I do feel a deep sadness sometimes, mostly for my lost years I spent in the bottle. I still battle depression but getting the alcohol out of my life has helped tremendously with that. Alcohol & depression are a deadly mix.

I recently had family visiting and had alcohol in the house, even bought it for them. I had no cravings but again felt this awful sadness about it all.

Anyway, thank-you all for reading. Life certainly has it's ups & downs but, without a doubt. it is better without alcohol.

Congrats on 9 months jessie! There is no one "right" way to get sober. I read somewhere that somewhere around 70% of folks who quit drinking do so on their own. This forum offers amazing support when needed.

Enjoy the wonders of living life not drinking.

Thank-you all.
I would not give up sobriety for the world now. Peace of mind is everything to me, after years of self loathing and embarrassment over my drinking.

For those still trying, you have nothing to lose by trying this healthier way of life, and everything to gain. Drinking is way over-rated seriously. Most people don't need alcohol at all in their lives, funny how I thought most people did. I enjoy everything I ever did, and so much more.

Don't ever give up, it's so much better on the other side.
