Extreme... Vertigo?
Hey, everyone.
I'd like to start this out by saying I plan on seeing a doctor ASAP, and I'm not looking for medical advice.
Basically, I tried to quit drinking again and ended up feeling like the whole world was swaying. Not spinning, but bobbing up and down, almost like I'm on a permanent cruise ship. Like an idiot, I wanted to test this theory by having 2 drinks. It didn't even solve the issue, which kind of makes me feel that it wasn't being brought on by acute withdrawal.
Oddly, this sensation has haunted me for the past few years; coming and going as it pleases, with or without the aid of alcohol.
So, for you experienced folk, have you ever had this happen? I don't like it, but I don't even have the context clues as to what could potentially, in theory be causing it.

Your issue may or may not be alcohol related. However, alcohol almost certainly isn't helping. Your plan to see your doctor ASAP is wise. Whatever is going on can probably be successfully treated.
Keep us updated. Personally, I'd be interested in knowing what's taking place.
Hi DB,
I've had the same symptoms that you mention 3 times over the last few years. Each time I've been to the Drs and been diagnosed with an inner ear infection. I had no ear pain at all but apparently that is common. A quick course of antibiotics on each occasion sorted the problem.
I'm not sure if it was drinking related. Perhaps possibly because my immune system was rocked with constant alcohol abuse.
Best best is to go to the Drs though to check it out,
Bruno

If its Vertigo, and you need to be assessed, pls see a physical therapist. They will assess you, and possibly perform something called the Eply maneuver (you can google). Its non medical, non invasive, totally harmless. Worst case scenario, it won't hurt. Best case it will clear it up in 24-48 hours. It was a lifesaver for me. The medical community just told me the Vertigo would clear up, or they gave me drugs that didn't work. This maneuver is awesome. Good luck.

Thanks to everyone for commenting. It's highly appreciated.
Some counselors of mine have said it was due to anxiety, but I had been in their care for anxiety, so everything was easily lumped together as such. In fact, every potential 'medical' problem was supposed to be solvable with meditation, and CBT. What a joke.
One thing I've noticed about this mild vertigo is that is seemingly doesn't happen when I'm away from home. I'm thinking about going to a doctor about this, but the bouts are so random that I have no idea what's causing them, or when they'll even happen.
There seems to be a link between this and IBS, so maybe that's it. Or I'll never know.

Death,
I started getting those attacks about 10 years ago.
Long story short...when i quit drinking...they slowly went away.
Great motivation to quit.
Now I suffer from mild ptsd from the attacks.....
But...the vert is gone.
Thanks.

However, there could be other things going on. Who knows, maybe the start of an ear infection or the like. Only the doc can help figure that out.
Hope you feel better soon. Just remember - drinking never makes anything better.
Not vertigo per se. But I have had ongoing bouts of dizziness, just my brain feeling kind of 'wonky'. Hard to describe.
The first time I really sobered up and experienced it I went to just about every medical specialist possible to look for a cause and found nil. Now I figure it's just a symptom of PAWS.

I get Vertigo every now and again. Drs and Er's had no solution other than 'motion' sickness pills which won't work. I went to the physical therapist and she did the Epley Maneuver and that does the trick. When it flares up I can do it myself or I go back to the PT.
Ask your dr about it....although I'm don't know if drs 'acknowledge' the procedure (its little more than rotating the head in such a way that it moves the inner ear crystals around)....which is crazy. But definitely see a dr as it could be any number of things. I get dizziness during an anxiety attack too that just has to resolve along with the anxiety.

Your brain had been so used to being soaked in alcohol that it's confused when you stop. Every one goes through different withdrawal symptoms.....mine were headaches, fatigue, diarrhea, extreme sweats....
You might need some medical help because coming off alcohol cold turkey can be dangerous....listen to your body and get help if you need it.
