Three Days and Worried

Okay, I have been drinking almost every day all summer. I would skip a day here and there, but most nights, I would have 3-5 doubles. So I decided the other day to quit or at least take a break. I didn't realize what a dependency I had on this stuff. The first day, it felt good to wake up without a hangover, later that day I was irritable as can be. Now these last two days I have just been so tired all the time. I can barely stay awake at work. Tonight we are going out with friends, that are heavy drinkers on the weekend especially. I don't know whether to try and just control in, you know the whole moderation thing or just say no thank you. I am little worried about the tiredness, I know it is better for me to not drink, but dang it is kind of freaking me out.

Just breathe ! My wife has stopped too, but I don't think she is feeling the symptoms like I am. Maybe it is just the end of the week and I am tired, but I was wondering if anyone experienced this and got to the other side.

Sober again day 3 . .....

Good job on getting to Day 3. Since you and your wife are both not drinking, maybe it would be an idea to skip tonight.

Don't hesitate to talk to your dr if you're not feeling well.

I experienced symptoms like that when I quit. There were other, worse symptoms too that came on. If I took a drink to try to stop the withdrawal it would just send me back to square one.

Why don't you cancel the whole going out with heavy drinkers thing? It doesn't sound like you have been drinking in moderation if you drank everyday all summer. I don't go out around other people drinking because it is boring now that I don't drink.

Once we know that we have a problem, we can't 'unknow' it and enjoy drinking. Why put yourself through more withdrawals? I'd cancel this time and wait until you have more sober muscles ☺

Cancelling

Thank all of you for your replies. I know I should cancel, and I am going to talk to my wife as soon as I get home and see about that.

It is very boring to be around drinkers, when you are not drinking.

Hockey,

Well done on day 3 buddy,

I have to say that if you go out tonight I fear for you, it's too early for you to be socialising with heavy drinkers.

Don't go is my advice,

Take care,

Bruno.

Yeah, being out with other drinkers right now, probably not a good idea if you are seriously commited to not drinking.

Its kind of like if I were trying to lose weight and went to the closest dunkin donuts or some other yummy pastry shop. All the sights and smells and triggers bombarding the brain....Yeah Id be eating a chocolate covered, custard filled, gooey, sticky yummy donut in seconds flat! Diet would be out the window ya know...

Dont tempt fate and put yourself in compromising positions.

" I didn't realize what a dependency I had on this stuff."

that alone should tell ya how good of an idea moderation or controlling is.

Congrats on day 3. Yah, those are withdrawal symptoms. They are mild. The longer to keep drinking the worse they become. My last one was so bad I literally thought i was going to die.

I have made it 4 whole days and working on the 5th now. I had some major exhaustion before quitting...but I still have it now. I can say it's not quite as bad as when I would try to function the day after a binge. But there are times where I can barely keep my eyes open very early in the evening, when normally I am a night owl.
Congrats on making it this long!
So, how did you manage?

I agree that hanging w drunks while not drinking is boring.

The few times i have done it though was enlightening.

Watching a drunk go from craving to intoxicated made me proud i kicked the habit.

I don't voluntarily hang w drunks now. Only when i have to, or if there is good food associated.

The best friends i have now are my sober ones. I look at my addicted friends as mentally out of it....all the time.
