New to the Site

Hello. This is my first post, although I've been reading for the better portion of a year. I'm ready for change. Drinking used to be fun. Now, there's absolutely nothing fun about it.

I want to feel good again, look good again, and be present for my family again. Joining this site is one of the steps I'm taking. I'm also re-kindling some old hobbies I used to do to help occupy my time, and will be looking at AA options. Unfortunately, attending a meeting near my home wouldn't be prudent, due to a very high possibility of being recognized, so I'll be looking at options near my work.

I did attend meetings for a few months a couple years ago. I liked some aspects, but disliked others, but am willing to give it another try. If that doesn't work, I'll look into the online AA meetings I've seen mentioned here.

Things need to change, and I'm willing to put in the effort. I'm excited to finally reach out to the fine people on these forums and ask for the help and support I so desperately need. Have a great day!

Rekindling hobbies is a good idea. I'm doing that too. I build split bamboo fly rods and carve wooden duck decoys...or at least I used to...getting back into it. It helps to have time not spent thinking about not drinking. Go for it!

Hi! Welcome. I can't make a proper post, just got to work. If AA is not an option, have you looked into Smart? They have online meetings. And remember if you are recognized it will be by other alcoholics. They are at AA for the same reason you are.

Gotta go- welcome to posting!

Welcome. I hear you. I don't know when alcohol went from fun to dread. But it sure did.

Thank you for the kind welcomes. I really am happy to have finally joined.

I haven't looked into Smart but will definitely do that. Regarding AA, as I mentioned, I'm looking into options near my work. I'm not at all afraid to go to the meetings and be recognized by other alcoholics. My fear of being recognized near my home is a bit more complex than I really want to get into on a public forum. It's an odd situation.

It is interesting how what started as fun, drinking at parties, gatherings turned into a much lonelier activity. And watching a once beautiful friend slowly go downhill as liver damage took over motivated me like nothing ever did before. I can attest to feeling so much better.

Thank you. Words can't quite express just how ready I am!
