Moderation does not work
Only when I truly realized and accepted that I cannot EVER moderate, even after YEARS, have I been comfortable and in the mode of sobriety vs. not drinking.
I, too, held onto that belief for so long.
I, too, went 10 months without drinking. It was 6 years ago. At Thanksgiving I thought after 10 months I could have a glass of wine. I drank the whole bottle of wine, and here I am six years later with six months of sobriety.
I'm afraid more people than not can't moderate with alcohol. The people I know who are very "light" drinkers don't seem to really like it at all; they seem to drink it for social reasons.
My sister is an exception. She can have one margarita. That's all she wants. I don't even comprehend that.
Congrats to you on this realization....it will empower you.

Hi. I did nearly six years sober, then started again. Moderately for a couple of months and six months later I was suicidal and turning up drunk for auditions (I am an actor). I moved to be closer to family and spent the first six months drunk. I am now 11 days sober again. Your message is a really helpful reminder that we wouldn't have to quit in the first place if we could do moderation. Sending love.
