If you try not to feel the pain, by ignoring it, you may actually find yourself in greater distress. Ever notice that when you go into a room with a ticking clock that you don't hear the sound after awhile? It's called habituation. It's a little like that with pain too. If you focus on the pain for a period of time, concentrating hard on it, you can sometimes "habituate" to the pain to a certain extent. It might be worth a try.
