How do I go about this?

For the last 4 years or so, I've been a high functioning drug addict. Ive managed to hide my addiction fairly well but it still takes its toll and im tired of the comedowns (feelings of guilt and shame) i just want to reclaim my life and have it the way it was before i started using. It took me along time to admit to myself that im an addict, and now im fully ready to recieve help and get clean. However, i have a full time job which i am dependent on and cannot enter into a rehabilitation centre at this stage. I feel stuck and powerless. Is it possible to get/stay clean without professional help?

AA/NA is an option. And it's free and very available in most areas. I go to AA everyday. My group is a balance of alcoholics and drug addicts and we all work together beautifully. I wouldn't want it any other way. What part of the world are you from? I'd be happy to help you find a group. curtis

Welcome Starfish!

Here's a place you could start:

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...ery-plans.html

Some of us have drawn on various kinds of professional help, others have got there through books, SR, 12-step groups, non-12-step groups, and other methods. You'll find lots of good info about peoples' experiences, all over this site. Pull up a chair & feel free to ask questions!

You can do this!

Welcome Starfish, I am glad you posted because I just joined myself today. It's amazing to me that even with the anonymity of the internet, how difficult it is to know where to begin. Best wishes and thank you for your courage.

Hi Starfish

Like others have said there are several ways outside inpatient rehab. AA/NA is one option - there are also other meeting based options like SMART and Lifering too if you want face to face contact

SR has helped a lot of folks too., I'm glad you found us
