Music Helps Sober Weekender Sept 2 Part 1

Music helped me cope as a kid. Deal with all sorts of firsts and faux pas. As life happened so did the sound tracks that filled it. I am sure we all have them.

Like the call drunk songs had for me to party so do sober songs have the pull to get me feeling better.

Nice and simple weekender plan for this long weekend. Here in the states the call to party is strong. Last holiday of the summer. The just one more before cleaning up for the holidays. Trying to show family and friends there is no drinking problem. Boy have I been there in my life.

If you are a newcomer maybe you can find the amazing musical knowledge of the weekenders a resource to find new sober songs that will get you through a craving or a trouble spot.

How about it weekenders? Ready to rock?

This song was playing in my head as a young man. LOL go figure!

Welcome to your sober weekend!!!

To lessen my troubles
I stopped hanging out with relatives
And empty saviors like you
I wish I had a nickel for every miracle
That you easily tricked me into

You can lead a horse to water
But faith is another matter
So don't you surrender
Cause sometimes salvation
In the eye of the storm

I've no time for accusations
Or conversations on all the bad, bad things you do.
Just a note from your jailer
Drugs and the relations
To all the people around you

You can lead a horse to water
But faith is another matter
So don't you surrender
Cause sometimes salvation
In the eye of the storm

I've kept secret your superstitions
And all its twisted wisdom
That I fell into

Sister can you try and find me?

MLD51 09-01-2016 04:01 AM

Wow. My son is excited for the first day of school. He got up at 5:30, has already eaten breakfast and packed his lunch. He doesn't need to leave until 7.

Soberwolf 09-01-2016 04:07 AM

LadyBlue0527 09-01-2016 04:18 AM

I am in! Thanks for the post Ken. Music has always been a driving factor in my life.

I've heard this song many times but never really paid attention to the words until just recently. Wow, just wow. This has now become my sobriety song. Even if you don't watch the video, take time to read the words. They blow me away. Have a great, sober weekend everyone!

I kept the right ones out
And let the wrong ones in
Had an angel of mercy to see me through all my sins
There were times in my life
When I was goin' insane
Tryin' to walk through
The pain

When I lost my grip
And I hit the floor
Yeah, I thought I could leave, but couldn't get out the door
I was so sick and tired
Of livin' a lie
I was wishin' that I would die

It's amazing
With the blink of an eye, you finally see the light
It's amazing
When the moment arrives that you know you'll be alright
It's amazing
And I'm sayin' a prayer for the desperate hearts tonight

That one last shot's permanent vacation
And how high can you fly with broken wings?
Life's a journey, not a destination
And I just can't tell just what tomorrow brings

You have to learn to crawl
Before you learn to walk
But I just couldn't listen to all that righteous talk, oh yeah
I was out on the street,
Just a tryin' to survive
Scratchin' to stay alive

It's amazing
With the blink of an eye, you finally see the light
It's amazing
When the moment arrives that you know you'll be alright
Oh, it's amazing
And I'm sayin' a prayer for the desperate hearts tonight

Desperate hearts, desperate hearts

Not a big Aerosmith fan, but the lyrics to that are really good, LadyBlue.

Forgot my song:
;)

WhiskeyBent 09-01-2016 04:33 AM

Here is my theme song. The lyrics hits all the points about why I want to quit so bad. Makes me cry sometimes.

"Eldorado"

He's a man-sized Eldorado
Hooved a doo
And who could blame him
Who could blame him
Where we going?
What's the ticket?
Just the mention of Berlin makes me sexy
it makes me sexy

And tired of thinking about drinking
For thinking of drinking
While thinking about drinking
And thinking about drinking
It's a man-sized inside

Look in here
It's all hardwood
What's that smell?
Smells like coffee
It smells like coffee
If you regret it please say something
I've got no genius for evil
That makes me common
It makes me common

And tired of loving, recovering
Loving, recovering
Loving, recovering
Loving, recovering
It's a man-sized inside

He's a man-sized Eldorado
Whoopty-do
If you can't take it
If you can't take it
Where's he going?
What's that ticking?
Just the mention of Berlin
Makes me sexy
It makes me sexy

And tired of thinking about drinking
For thinking of drinking
While thinking about drinking
And thinking about drinking

Tired of loving, recovering
Loving, recovering
Loving, recovering
Loving, recovering
It's a man-sized inside
It's a man-sized inside

Inside
Inside
Inside
Inside
Inside
Inside
Inside

IN! Like Sara Bareilles

Everybody's been there,
Everybody's been stared
Down by the enemy
Fallen for the fear
And done some disappearing
Bowed down to the mighty
Don't run
Stop holding your tongue
Maybe there's a way out of the cage where you live
Maybe one of these days you can let the light in
Show me how big your brave is

LadyBlue0527 09-01-2016 04:51 AM

Wow, Ken, what a great thread and a reminder of how powerful music really is.

Weasel1966 09-01-2016 04:51 AM

Great stuff! Welcome WhiskyBent!

Ah the smell of a fresh empty inbox. I accidentally deleted all my email. Just don't want to go there but now that its done it feels kinda nice! Very freeing not to carry that all around.

I am doing something I NEVER do. Ride a bike. Helmet and bike all ready. Gonna put the rack on the back of the car and head out. Pics to follow. I know... you are thinking why does he have a helmet, bike and bike rack if he never does it. I have used the bike maybe 6 times since 2007. An L.L.Bean Acadia Cruiser. Big puffy seat for this old man.

See you all later!

Olive... I get no steps for this but I should get some kind of credit no? LOL
