Melina and Ruby, I need your local expertise. We'll be downtown on Sunday night visiting relatives, and we're looking for a kid-friendly, reasonably priced place to eat. Magnificent mile/Navy Pier area. Any suggestions?

I'm not Ruby but there IS a tunnel under my building, it is not a secret tunnel but it does contain the river Walbrook - one of the "lost" rivers of London and where a RomanTemple to the God Mithras was discovered.

This is not my pic as I have no intention of going down there but I have peered down one of the access doors

Some trivia - the current tunnels were commissioned by Edgar Lansbury in the 1920s. He was the Communist Mayor of Poplar and Angela Lansbury's dad

Here are some interesting historical tunnels just opened to the public. Fascinating.

Goodnight soberwolf -
I'm home for a very late lunch.....made brain's chicken tenders. Yummy as always.
I have my roast in the crockpot and I may or may not be hungry later....but I bet I will be.
I've got to get back to work for a few hours.

U75, I'll have to put on my thinking cap. It has been years since I've been down in that area. My mother in law braves it to take kids to Navy Pier. There are tons of places that are tourist oriented but I'm not sure that's what you want.

Sao, that is a super cool tunnel. The picture is intriguing. I googled the mithraism. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Mithraeum

Tetra posted a picture of THE Young Frankenstein. Great quote

I took a job last night I just knew I shouldn't have.
It's gonna be a lot of stressful hard work for not very much money.
I tried to cancel it today- but I'll be leaving the people in a huge bind.
That was a mistake.
Loooooong night ahead

what's the fishing situation in the next couple weeks Trach?
worth trying the Chatahoochie, or head for stripers?

tonight's dinner choices are, Grilled steak with fixins, or black cherry ice cream with walnuts and chocolate sauce...
since I had sirloin with noodles for lunch... ice cream it is for dinner...

did I mention how I'm not a fan of painting anymore? took orbital sander to posts to smooth it out, round off the corners and get potential splinters gone, then painted it with "natural cedar" solid stain... the rest is gonna be that green color she loves so well... it makes sense as it will sorta blend in with the trees behind it and not be a big beacon of brown...

Hey Weekenders!!

Haven't been around much this Weekend, I was away in Glasgow checking out the sights and taking in an Ice Hockey game, amazing place for history, saw and learnt so much.

Anyone into Jack The Ripper? . . . well turns out Robert Liston has a monument in Glasgow commemorating all his achievements as a Scottish surgeon in an era prior to anaesthetics, well the Liston knife was referenced in the graphic novel From Hell, later to be made into a film with Johnny Depp, amazing!!

Hope we are all well!!

Greetings From ~8,400' ~

Today was what I call a 'Infrastructure & Administrative Day'. Drove down several times to intercept the Campground Hosts to see if I could extend my stay here a few Days. Despite their Sign saying 'Back Shortly', they were neither. Very old Folks a lil befuddled by the Technology of on-line Reservations, and other such Practices. So, I check in with them after they're updated Thursday Morning on what's available here, if anything. A pretty funny encounter, actually.

Made a new Pal situated at the Site adjacent, and shot the breeze about Trailers and Solar Energy and All Things Geezer. He turned me on to a Campground down the Road, so I just grabbed the last Site available on line beginning this Saturday. Out next Wednesday, and back Home. Lotsa drive-up Sites there, he said, so mebbe I'll just head down there on Thursday. First World Decisions.

Somehow, today got eaten up with details like Campsite Reservations, and Camp cleanup/unloading Firewood for the next 2 Nights; Poop Hikes [for MesaDog, that is]. I was screwing around with mounting my long range Cellular Antenna on the Trailer Hitch when I ran across this Big Guy below right in my Face on the Trailer.

H&F ~ I researched, and sprung for, the TP-Link AC 1900 Dual Band Router reviewed below. $127- on line. Hundreds of Feet of wireless connectivity in my Tests. Running 2 Laptops. Also, 2 Roku Boxes running out of it just fine. Punches through Walls, and House Cement Siding Board [stained to look like Cedar]. Not many more Shekels than a WiFi Range Extender. Set-up was easy-peasy. Smokin' throughput speed, so it's not the speed bottleneck in my System. My ~12 Meg DSL Landline is. For reference, our Verizon Wireless Jetpack PC/Data Modem hits ~30 Megs to the line-of-sight Cell Tower. I kinda recall that this Router is rated to 100 Megs throughput on the [upper] 5 gHz WiFi Channel. Stutter-free Roku Video requires 3 or 4 Megs.

3 removable Antennas, so I'll remote mount one out under a House Eave to hit our Out Buildings, and MesaMate's Gym with a Roku feed. Yah, if Roku freezes on ya, you likely got some Signal Strength issues. Good insight/advice from Folks up-Thread.

lol Jen! Letters are so romantic and I love that you get to write and receive so many of them! It truly is a lost art! I wrote a thank you card the other day and my hand was cramping after the third sentence haha!

Trach...I noticed the 'holy' plants earlier but since I'm not much of a green thumb I figured it was just another variety I'd never heard of!

Just ate Mexican food with a friend and I'm stuffed! Wish I could eat more at one sitting but I'm not used to big meals. I'm more of a snack person....meals are just too much of a commitment lol!

I've been invited for an overnight getaway Friday! Guess I'll go since it's a long weekend and I'm not babysitting! We're going to do some antiquing and tour some old homes and maybe a scenic train ride Saturday. I'm kind of relieved to have a plan for at least part of the weekend!

Hi PK! Neat stuff!
xo

Mesa....I'm still giggling over your 'poop hikes' clarification! You mentioned very old folks befuddlement over technology so I've got to brag on my 92 year old grandmother who not only TEXTS but uses all the text lingo! She's also pretty savvy with email!
