Coming back from a relapse.
Hey new friends!
I'm getting sober after a pretty bad relapse. I had 13 months and then I fell off the wagon and returned to my old habits for about 4 months. Today is day one and I've decided to do this the right way this time. I'm going to my first meeting tonight and working on building a new support network. Does anyone have any tips about this site or tips about coming back from a relapse? Also what should I expect from my first meeting?
Thanks!

welcome back
I had 23 years sober and drank again no reason to beat yourself up.
What has always worked for me is accountability I check in here every day on the 24 hour sobriety thread and commit to not drinking for 24 hours. I belong to the March group and do my best to check in every day, and I attend 3 different recovery groups AA, Smart Recovery and LifeRing.
I also stay in contact with my AA sponsor of 17 years

as far as what to expect how about no expectations go with an open mind take what you need leave the rest, hopefully you will feel comfortable enough to talk to someone at the meeting and they can introduce you to the program.
There is all the support one could need for recovery in this world you just have to reach out and do the work, good luck.

Welcome Psychalgia
If you have any questions about the site just ask
I think the two main things to look at initially are support - finding it, making sure you have enough - and using it...
and changes - making the changes in your life that reflect your desire to be sober
This is a great community - you'll find a lot of help support and good ideas here

I'd like to meet the person who made that up....
Relapse is part of my addiction, relapse has no place in my recovery.
Yes relapse is unfortunately common - but it's not inevitable, it's not desirable, and it's not a pre-requisite for staying sober/clean for good.

Welcome to an encouraging place, psychalgia! We're so glad to have you with us. I felt so much better when I found SR & was no longer alone.
My last relapse lasted years - you weren't foolish enough to keep going. Congrats on Day 2 I like your optimism & determination to do things differently this time. You can make it so.
