Finally Got Meds for Detox

I finally saw my psychiatrist who gave me valium. I've had a terrible time with gastro the past 5 days. At least I'm losing weight. This is the last time he'll give me valium to detox but I feel like I've hit rock bottom and see drinking now as an unpleasant signing of my own death warrant.

Glad you are finally getting some help and relief Sweetichick. Did you work on any kind of a game plan for recovery with your psychiatrist other than the valium itself?

We're working on going to AA and joining a social group. Anything that keeps me from being so isolated and bored.

I'm glad you're working on a recovery plan - there's a fair few good ideas in here too:

Yes, isolation and boredom are not your friends if you're trying to quit drinking. Good idea on the meetings/social clubs. For me, drinking was more of a habit than anything else. Once I replaced the cocktail hour with something else, I stopped thinking about alcohol. (At least at home!)

We should believe that we'll only detox once, and therefore need the valium once; we're going in knowing that we CAN DO IT and will not relapse again and go through that vicous cycle.
Glad to hearyou've got a recovery plan going. Don't plan on going to AA; GO!
The best choice for treatment has proven to be attendance in a group dynamic, and simply said, AA is just that, a bunch of people with something in common getting together to share and help each other.
