I've been a relapser
I have been sober (from alcohol) off and on for several years. I've had 5 yrs., 2 yrs. 3 months, and one yr. Not to count 6 months here and there, plus 2 treatment centers and one psych ward, and two hospital detox centers. It has been a struggle for me over the years..but I am convinced that without the sobriety I had off and on, or I would be dead. I was seriously trying each time. It was not until I realized what had been causing my relapses, I could not stay sober. I had graduated to isolating in my room and binge drinking, until I got so sick I couldn't drink anymore from being so sick I would drink for weeks in a row...go to sleep high and drunk and wake up and start it all over again...I made sure I had a large supply, but if I started running low I would make sure that the next morning, when I had sobered up a little and go get another large supply at 7:00 am when the booze store opened. I had to be Detoxed by the time I quit. I have detoxed on my own several times, but it became too dangerous. I hope, that my story can help others.
