39 Weeks

I am at 39 weeks sober now and feeling great.

Had a counseling session this past Friday and we reviewed my progress but also discussed some of my character flaws. The discussion was about how these flaws are different now versus when drinking and what I have done to help turn these flaws around into positives. An example would be I have very little patience for people I perceive as 'not having a clue'. In the past while drinking this would have caused angst and probably resulted in a snyde comment or four. Now that I am in more control I have the ability to stop myself and consider maybe they are lost, or had other things on their mind so couldn't order even though they have been standing in line with the menu in front of them for five minutes.

It was good to talk through those and is a reason why I recommend counseling as part of a recovery plan.

Keep to your plans folks, we can do this.

Your example made me smile. And, it really shows progress, because, like you, I used to simply react and do so in a selfish way. Realizing that other people may have a lot going on that you know nothing about, is a great sign of progress.

Congratulations on 39 weeks IronPhoenix, we seem alike, I think I should learn some patience in the same way, it is a good reminder.

Thank you
