On top of all my hardships, I got sunburned at the office today. (Okay, okay, I'm starting to look on the bright side).

Poor BigS, you shouldn't have to work in those terrible conditions.

Well, Big S, I'm trying to feel sorry for you in re: the sunburn. Trying!

Pitty, I just wanted to add to what others have noted about early sobriety. It does take a while for us to get back to a place that feels better. Just hang in there.

Sao, I hope you have a nice time with younger daughter at your place.

Not much of any great excitement going on here. Tomorrow is the lipids test. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

BTW, Marty, you provided some really wise counsel to one of our fellow journeyers on the Newcomers Forum. You're a smart, good woman.

Awwww... Thanks, Ven. So are you.

I'm about out of energy for anything other than a bit of reading before falling asleep. Goodnight, friends.

Hi everyone, loved all your posts!

Mesa, Coldfusion and bigS, great photos! Did anyone else post a photo? I loved it too if you did!

Marty, those specs are cool! I wear similar frames, the guy at my eye place tells me that the style is called "geek chic" and it's the thing. I think it's another way to say naughty teacher or secretary specs. Bc when I get new ones, that's what the guys in the kitchen say.

I don't know whether to be flattered or irritated that it's the foreign object on my face that finally makes me look hawt, and not my natural beauty and scowl, haha. Bc bigS, what you're thinking about saying to your new people, I say it.

THERES NO CRYING IN THE KITCHEN!

ALL I NEED OUTTA YOU IS A YES, CHEF!

IF I WANTED TO EXPLAIN IT FIFTY TIMES, I WOULDVE DONE IT MYSELF!

I LOVE YOU AS IF YOU WERE MY OWN CHILD, BUT YOU BETTER GET OUT OF SMACKING DISTANCE!

OH I WAS WRONG ABOUT WHERE THAT THING WAS? THE CHEF IS NEVER WRONG, SOME JERKFACE MOVED IT!

SHUT YOUR MOUTH WHEN YOURE TALKING TO ME!

But I say it with a smile and then give hugs after. Works for us. Kitchen guys get it. Especially with the stuff I do for them, like help them find lawyers, buy them safe kitchen shoes, help them register for school, etc. I love my guys. The good ones. They call me Mama sometimes.

My kitchen philosophy:

"Regard your soldiers as your children, and they will follow you into the deepest valleys; look on them as your own beloved sons, and they will stand by you even unto death". -Sun Tzu

Totally true, especially when I have the guys fresh out of prison, and I'm managing cooks or stewards from rival gangs, or kids that are becoming fathers and mothers with no support, and managing ppl from ages 18 to 60. I have all their backs, and I get the poison ones out quick.

Good stuff, especially when you work like hell to get that good good team chemistry. And that's when I start yelling at them

Good night HaF! Have a lovely day tomorrow!

Melina, that made me laugh. Someone posted something on Facebook asking a "do you remember when?" question. "Stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about." I commented that it doesn't have to be a memory. When my kids are whining I'll say that and they usually laugh at me.

Met up with the English relatives who head home tomorrow. Chicago to Dublin to stanstead. Daughter walking around speaking in an English accent. Cuddling with the elder 12 year old cousin. I'll be chasing the boys off with a stick. Or locking daughter in her room until she's 18. It was harmless but shades of things to come. I suggested pen pal status. I think it'll be a great thing for the kids to keep in touch.

I'm off work the rest of the week. Awesome!

Good stuff Mel ... I especially like how you quoted Sun Tzu about running your kitchen.

Just have Melina there when the boys come by Ruby.

Morning everyone,

BigSomb, your sure have a hard life what with your al fresco office and all

Melina your post made me smile, I know from my sister/BIL's place that the kitchen can be I highly charged environment

Ruby, early teens is probably the hardest time. Once they get to mid/late teens they are more able to understand their own feelings. There has probably not been a better time to be a girl.

I was thinking of bim too

HaF I take fish oil tablets though it's for my arthritis so maybe I am getting two benefits for the price of one

Good morning rogues,

May your hump day rise up to meet you. Tis a beautiful morning here. Sunny and foggy for my morning commute and very light traffic.

BigS - Are you in a union? Those working conditions you paint seem untenable!

A Rose from Chicago (pronounced "Chic-argo") won the competition.

Have a great day all.

Hi!
Just checking in- finished work and its late :/
Still sober though! Looking forward to getting back on track.
Was doing the 'one more time' in my head again- but that could go on for years again like it did before.

Welcome back J.

Night all.

Why does the smell of bleach make me think my house is clean? Two squirts in a sink doesn't clean a house

Thanks for the song, Trach.
Good afternoon, Wolfe!

I'm trying to clear my foggy brain before getting ready for work. I keep having strange dreams. Maybe I need to quit eating ice cream right before bed.
