Newcomers Weekender Aug 19th - Part 1
Have fun with the family.

Doing great Ken...
Wife and I both are amazed at how sobriety feels.
More time for running trains.
Petals... You can enter:
Eastern: New York City. Let's say it's 5am
Central: Chicago. That's at 4am
Mountain: Denver. They are at 3am
Pacific: Seattle. They are at 2am.
Portland Maine is too small to come up on your phone or I would have said that for Eastern.
Also you in the UK are 5 hours ahead of me. I start the threads on Thur[s]day 5am Eastern. That's 10am for you!

wow Behan, 20 months with the weekender... I recall the discussion of why you changed your avatar to that truck thing... 'to fit in' I believe
Welcome Elle, It is important for you to understand that you do not have to feel obligated to comment or involve yourself in all of the goings on with the folks who share their days here. But you are more than welcome to, in fact, encouraged to join in. What is important is that you do not feel intimidated by the familiarity between the many who post regularly on the "weekenders". As Behan said, he was 'new' at one time. We share our daily lives, what we do/did to get and stay sober and how we cope with the daily grind. We like to share our accomplishments. For example, I am working on completing a landscape project I started well over ten years ago but it somehow was cast aside as I went deeper into the bottle. I didn't care about much for a very long time. After getting sober I finally got back my self-respect and incentive to work on the many things I neglected over the years. This thread has become a sort of running diary for me.
Many of us have lost friendships over the years, and it seems for some like me, this place is my only social network.
What is most important is that everyone here is concerned about the sobriety of others, especially the new 'faces' and will jump in to help them get through troubling times if they are struggling with keeping sober. Stick around and you will learn a lot. I'm sure Weasel can also attest to the gratitude felt when we see how someone improves over a period of time. It is like a family here.
However, if you are having any difficulty at all getting through the weekend, you become the priority here. Don't be afraid to call out for help, the troops will circle the wagons and come to your aid.
Evening, all (8.36pm in my corner of the world - Sydney, Aus).
Nice intro, as ever.
I'm not a big contributer to the weekend thread, but I read. And, more importantly, I commit to another weekend sober. This one shall be spent on the water, giving the kayaks a run out. And baking, 'cause it's important to have balance in life.
Hope everyone has a good one planned.

Thanks for starting this Ken. My problem was also weekends so I knew that once I posted and was on the bus, that was it for me, no chance of drinking the entire weekend.
I see that newcomers are finding their way here which is great, it's a good community thread to become a part of and to get to know people.
I like coming here but I also like to take a few minutes and read other posts from people in the Newcomers Forum. We have a great little world in here but many of those folks seeking help don't find their way here and could benefit from those who feel secure in sobriety. I often see Marty out there.
Recently I found that maybe there should be an addition to tips on urge surfing. Come here and try to keep up with the number of posts between visits! I love this thread and have to use the last "like" that I did as the gauge of where I left off.
Not much time these days but I don't know what I'd do without you guys and my morning coffee!

Morning Enders!
Thank you, Weasel, for a lovey intro!
It's 4:24am here in Seattle right now.
I remember when I first got sober, I attended a lot of AA meetings. They were always mixed with a lot of different people, with different lengths of sobriety. Getting sober was so, so hard for me. Brutal. But, I saw that there were folks that were sober and happy.
And I thought, I really want what they have.
And what they had was really possible.
This is why I love the Weekender thread. It shows that life can be great living soberly. Even with the bumps.

I can really associate with the unfinished project thing. Not counting a couple of slips it's been a bout a month since I decided to stop and motivation is coming back to me big time.
In my case I m recording an album I started about 5 yrs ago, so it'll be a weekend full of singing for me.
What's your landscaping project? My wife has a few and intends to use me and my utter lack of skills in this area to execute them over Autumn. Glad I ll have been sober for a few months then as it'll need a lot more motivation!
