Day One

Hi, I've been trying to get sober for a while. I live almost an hour away from the closest AA meeting. I really need support, doing this alone feels impossible. I'm a single mom and I work full time. My reward for getting through the day is alcohol. Obviously, this has to change. Anyone else feel all alone on their journey?

Hi Suzi,

It's also early days for me, but I have felt completely alone up until this time. The difference now is I joined this forum.

You came to the right place, I hope it helps you as much as it is helping me.

I have support but didn't always have it, I would encourage you to consider reaching out to some of the AA ladies as they would be more than happy to pay you a visit, nice to have someone to talk to as well

I am with you - I am also a single mom working full time. I also felt really alone until I joined SR last night and am feeling so much encouragement and love. I got through last night after work alone without a drink and you can too! Lets do this together.

I am surrounded by AA meetings which I now attend but at the beginning j was to scared. Someone suggested online AA meetings for me and I tried them and liked them. you could try those if you want? But yes I felt very alone. This forum definitely helps me not feel so alone

You might also want to go to youtube and type in alcoholics annonomous (sp). There's a lot of videos on people talking about recovery. Also, you might also want to check out Ted Talks on youtube. It talks about various subjects that people are struggling with. Their not directly related to drinking, but discusses various issues like stress, that might be helpful to you. Take care. John

Hi Suzii making a day 1 is a excellent move know you have us in your corner x

Welcome! Come visit us here! Also, I listen to AA speaker tapes when I cannot get to meetings. You can find a lot of them on YouTube. I love Scott R. and Mickey B (both on youtube). Can you pick one meeting a week to get to...as a start? Make that a commitment?

Welcome Suzzi

I only started using this site on Sunday and have found people have been so supportive, I am a single mum working full time too. sometimes the level of stress means it's so easy to go back to the bottle rather than work on recovery. I don't know your job situation but would a little time off be an option to give you a bit of headspace . Just a suggestion it may not suit you.
I wish you luck in sorting your problem and recognising the need for help

It can feel like you are alone, but one of the positives in getting into recovery is there is support everywhere to help along the way. There is this site, countless videos and channels on youtube, books, videos, really anything that you feel helps, go with it!

suzii 08-17-2016 04:40 PM

Wow! I'm overwhelmed by everyone's genuine kindness and support! I'm so glad to be here. Everything happens for a reason

Welcome, Suzii! Hang in there. Days 1, 2, and 3 were pretty rough for me but it got better after that. Hang in there. Day 10 is almost through. Not drinking today. I'll worry about tomorrow when tomorrow comes!!

Hello and Welcome. Wishing you lots of patience and strength on this journey tonight.

Welcome Suzii! I am a newly remarried mother but was single for several years. Raising children on your own has to be the hardest job ever. You are doing a good thing for you and your child/children. I hope this site helps you as much as it has helped me.

Pondlady 08-17-2016 06:33 PM

This is a wonderful place! Hang out with us, there are even "chat meetings" each week, so check those out too :)
