U7775 Congratulations on 50 days :You_Rock_

Congrats on 50 days Das Boot, aka U75. :lmao

Behan 08-09-2016 09:28 AM

Afternoon all.

I hope things even out on the domestic front LB.

Well done on 50 days U75 - das boot nüchtern!!

Melina - would you ever consider opening your own place? Your menu could be all funky and modern and your tag line might be "we treat our employees like human beings"! I'd definitely go there for a meal if I'm ever in the states. :)

I hope everyone else is keeping well. I have been looking at houses for sale on line in between work. It might just be possible.....

Ruby, thank you for your suggestions, I Googled Leighton House, it does look interesting. I did go for a walk round my manor.

I reckon I easily passed 50+ places where alcohol was on sale in one form or another so pubs, bars, wine bars, cocktail bars, private clubs, restaurants, off licences, shops, supermarkets and 1 casino. Amazing us Brits do anything sometimes

Edit: next time I will post a few pics (not of drinking establishments). I am sure you have all had enough canal pics by now

Behan 08-09-2016 09:29 AM

Ha ha - great minds Mr SUID!

It's as bad or worse over here in the States Sao. :scared:

For alcohol availability Sao, check out these stats.

I can't speak for the rest of the US, but I know Wisconsin is similar. I think that's how they define "town": whether it has at least one intersection where all four corners are occupied by bars.

This afternoon I went down to my new office for training although my official start date is in 2 weeks.
While I was gone I had all these missed calls from the clinic. Typically if I was in the office all afternoon no one would call but the one time I'm not there every one wants something.
When I got back to the office my colleague said that the manager came up while I was gone (checking up on me no doubt) and she asked her again to leave me where I am as I'm such a nice person and so helpful. She said no.

So I went to the clinic and they were asking me where I was. I decided to tell them the story. One of them said "oh my God. This is so disappointing when you have just settled in here". Someone else came in then and asked "how's your day going?" She nodded at me and said "it was going fine but now it's just taken a complete nose dive". She ran out and I followed her and she said she wanted to talk to my consultant about it as she thinks it's not fair as I've pretty much just gotten used to the place.
So then the other girl said "I really will miss you Tetra. You have always been one of the few here who is always polite and kind and helpful".
So my colleagues are staging a "revolt" of sorts. I highly doubt it will lead anywhere but it's just nice that I am so highly regarded by the people I work with. I honestly didn't know that.
At the moment I'm sitting on a bench listening to the church bells. I have this warm and fuzzy feeling in my chest. It's new and different. It's nice. And no it's not alcohol related.
What is it? I think it's "love". Love for myself and a great warmth for my friends at work.

Congrats on Day 50, U75. It will keep getting better.

On the relapse thing...I know a few of you continue to drink, and I'm sad about that.
Better you than me, though. I quit in my early thirties the first time. Everything got better for the next 18
years of sobriety, and that 18 years really made it pretty easy to quit this time - other than the physical
damage I did in my little Second Time Around, but the psychological part? I already knew the drill. I like living in
default mode. The way nature intended it.

"Progress not perfection." One of my least favorite AAisms. Used out of context all the time.
When it comes to alcohol, it doesn't apply. It isn't meant to apply to alcohol. It is referring to spiritual growth.

U75, you can message Anna and she will change your username if you want.

For that matter, you get one freebie on username changes you can do yourself.

Tetra ~ I'm sure it feels good to hear how the people you work with feel about you. I hope whatever direction things at work go, it will be for the best.

Tetra 08-09-2016 10:18 AM

Well my dad just said "let the others revolt if they wish. You do as you're told" :)

Well I probably will but still...no harm really in letting her know I'm not entirely thrilled. I spent so long hiding how I feel that now I like people to know.

How can I feel so far behind on the thread?

First: There is such thing as tangerine flavored LaCroix? I did not know that! I will look for it soon. Maybe even tonight.

Sao, Ruby kind of beat me to it. When I feel edgy -- and it happens from time to time -- the best thing in the world for me is to wander. That's how I wound up in the art museum on Saturday. There are so many wonderful wandering places in London. You're off this week, correct? Maybe wander further afield. Take a train to Dover or somewhere pretty?

I'm flabbergasted by how many pubs per capita are listed in the chart Behan shared. That's saying a lot for a girl who grew up in smalltown Wisconsin.

Bim, a friend in AA has the same observation that "progress, not perfection" is used out of context. I've seen that here, too. And I'm sad when my friends here drink and/or look for answers in the bottle.

We could have a "Rename Username 7775" contest.

OK ... my lunchtime ramblings. Have a good day/evening/night ... you are all dear.

Upward2Enlightenment 08-09-2016 10:30 AM

Your dad is right Tetra. Nothing wrong with expressing how you feel but you don't want to be seen as a troublemaker. You can let your boss know that you are not pleased with the change but you will do whatever work that they want you to do to the best of your ability.

saoutchik 08-09-2016 10:50 AM

Tetra that is great that your coworkers are angry that you are being moved (if it was me they would probably all be celebrating) I expect it will go no further than words as people have their own jobs to consider

You guys are always causing me to check out Wikipedia or similar:)

I was shocked by those stats Behan posted, I guess that some of those villages are in prime tourist areas. I looked up Feakle on Wiki and it's location is superb. Bit of trivia - it's pre famine population was nearly 9000

I certainly wouldn't want to force places to close as it is what gives my part of town it's "feel" and let's be honest keeps pushing property prices up - good for me, bad for young people. This time of the year though there are thousands of people standing outside these places and they are not all smokers. A happy medium would be nice
