2nd Day Panic
Hi,
I am nearly at the end of my second day and
I feel okay physically. I live in a very small town
and in three hours it will not be possible for me
to obtain alcohol. I have left my house twice to
get some and turned back after 100 yards. The pull
is getting so strong. Apart from locking myself in
and breaking the lock what can I do to resist?
I don't want to start again. I haven't been dry for
three days for years..
Thanks,
Nicholas.

Is there anything you can do to to take your mind off the cravings Hammers. Rather than locking yourself in it might be an idea to go for a walk and take in the local sights and sounds. It is a long time since I visited but I am sure Bern is still a beautiful city.
There is some advice on how to deal with cravings in early recovery which hopefully someone can link if I don't find them
You can do this Hammers

The only thing that can stop you from drinking is YOU. The chains are from within, you can choose to stay chained to your demons or you can resist, turn your head, and fight like hell to overcome this. I think you know which outcome you want....so it is time to fight like hell to get there!
Do you have a recovery plan or follow a recovery program? There are many programs out there...read around and pick one or combine 2 or more- it just helps to have some guidance by a program that is built for those like us. I have also found counseling is a HUGE resource and has been a HUGE factor in my getting and staying sober. It might also help to get a doctor behind you that knows your history, can monitor your physical health, and can prescribe medications if and as needed. Do you have a support system? It is extremely important to have people to lean on - whether they are family, sober friends, or if you have neither AA meetings are GREAT places to find a sober support system. IOP and group therapy can also connect you with others to create a strong support system. Journaling has also helped me process every step of my recovery and gives me a way to look back at how bad it truly was when my mind starts playing tricks on me.
YOU CAN DO THIS! It might be a lot of work, but I PROMISE you the rewards are worth every ounce of the work it takes to get them.

bistro's all over the place. If I go out, then I am
f***ed. I have cleaned my flat from top to bottom.
Done the laundry.
I think my only option is a couple of sleeping pills
as I am a bit tired anyway.
It is 18.00h CET now where I am. At 20.30h CET
everything will close. And day three will happen
on its own.
Thanks,
Nicholas.

The lead baseball cap is our brain trying to put everything back together that we threw out of wack from too much alcohol.
Usually goes away with a week... Drink lots of water and keep up the great work!!
I am glad you live far away from the booze. I find exercising hand sticking to a routine helpful in the early days. Eat a lot, drink water, and take vitamins. Hang in here! I'm only on day 2. Keep going and never give up!
I'm hoping you got through Nicholas
for me, I planted myself on SR - not only posting for myself but posting to others and reading.
It got me through until the shops shut.
These days, with the benefit of hindsight, I recommend making a recovery plan:

Thanks for the replies.
It is day three now, only for a few
hours anyway. Going to bed now.
Try to look forward to day four.
I haven't had any shakes or sweats
or any thing apart from a thick head.
Am I just lucky or is that still in the
Post?
Thanks..

Tomorrow night try catching a movie or something else engaging when you would normally be drinking. It always drove me nutts doing nothing and gave me too much time to think. My craving starting going down after the first week, within a month it reduced significantly.
