Day Zero
Day Zero
To quote Boston: "Been here such a long time..." Is there a limit on Day One's? I start to wonder if I hold the record, but I suspect I don't. Sometimes it really feels that way...and yet I keep coming back here! That speaks volumes about this community, even when I'm in the depths...Dee's phrase "We don't shoot our wounded" keeps going through my head, and really offers me hope that it's never too late to come back and try, try, try again...
Told the Corner Store clerk this morning (9:45 am, never really went to bed) "Don't sell me any more of this sh*t!" He didn't laugh at me, actually said he'd pass the word, and then said, "Good for you, Mike." That also gave me hope that I'm not a hopeless case, after giving that same vow at the same store many times over the years.
So thanks to SR for second chances, and for accepting input from those of us still struggling; this will always be home base for me, because I've never really quit trying; when I give up on trying, I'm as good as dead...

I'm only on day 5, we've got this. My withdrawals haven't been terrible, but my av has been nonstop telling me I would feel so much better if I just took one shot.
I am finally armed & stronger thanks in big part to sr. Like you , I would have already been to the first liquor store that opened at 8am to buy just 1 shot.
Crazy. You ve got this.

Good for coming back!
IMO, day one is for distraction, sleep, whatever it takes to get through it. Just today.
You can do it. Then you can keep doing it - find a program and just start. The days will add up if you keep going.
Good luck! Hope to see you here.

Hi Mike,
I'm glad you are back! I have also had many day ones. this past NYE I decided enough, I needed to make sobriety stick this time. I came back to SR and have checked in here and with the January class daily. The first few weeks were tough, but isobriery has been so worth it.

the great FACT is this can be your last day 1 IF you become willing to do whatever is necessary to make it your last day 1.
are you willing to do whatever necessary?
have you looked into recovery methods, plans?

D: thank you for asking! Tonight, the best I can do is go to bed and perform my church gigs tomorrow the best I can. I know that nothing changes without changes ("turn and face the strange" to quote Bowie; as a fellow musician, I always assume you'll get every music reference...)
Right now I'm desperate for change, so my future plan is: change everything about my life, because this path is certainly not working anymore! Been here such a long time...
I love this place; it offers hope when we're feeling hopeless,

Changes is a good one to quote - it's that 'stream of warm impermanence' we have to leave behind
but perhaps some of the most hopeful of Bowies poetry is also his last:
Make those changes. Be fearless
