Last night
Morning everyone
I went out with my mates last night, we went to a few local bars and clubs and I wanted to just post for accountability purposes but my friend mixed up the drink order when he got to the table and served me his double gin and tonic instead of lemonade (they were both just clear in the glass)
On realisation (after taking one big swig) I mentioned it and swapped it with the lemonade so there was no intention for me to drink it, it was a complete accident.
For the record it tasted like poison so for anyone actually seriously contemplating come aiming alcohol this weekend I would not recommend it. The lemonade tasted much better.
In other news ex gf has text me a few times this week. I have ignored them. She needs to take responsibility of her own emotions and not keep leaning on me to feed it. I'm keeping my distance. Sad but inevitable to keep my head above water

I don't know how you do it Stewy. Just the thought of standing in an atmosphere where alcohol use is rampant is nothing that interests me anymore. I was invited to a local island a few weeks back by a friend who said "but it's all about the music!". Then her Facebook post that day showing rum buckets. I know better.
You're going to do what you're going to do. Might be wise to at least get your own drinks at the bar. That way there's no chance of you accidentally taking a swig of the wrong drink. No matter how much it tastes like poison you're still playing a game with the monster. Believe me, don't ever get comfortable that he's not lurking because he is. The fact that you didn't doubly make sure that you had the right drink lends credence to the fact.
Not saying it wasn't a mistake just saying the AV plays a good game.

I commend you for stopping.
A similar thing happened to me a couple Christmas eves ago.
Had two drinks on the counter, both looked identical.
One was seltzer the other vodka and seltzer.
I believe at the time I was close to day 90.
I got busy grabbed the wrong one and took a hard swig.
I felt like 100,000 volts shot through me.
Unfortunately unlike you, I foolishly didn't stop.

Nice recovery stewy.
That swig might have flipped the switch if you were not strong enough.
I have not avoided boozy places either. I always manage to appreciate finding other sober people to emulate. The drunk people generally repulse me.
Btw, when I think about it....they repulsed me when I was drunk too....I repulsed myself...esp. in the morning.
Hmmm...
Thanks.

Stewy:
Why not put your ex on your blocked list?
That way you won't even see when she calls or txts you. Don't put yourself through that. From what you have posted, your relationship is toxic. You are doing so great and deserve better!!!

An atmosphere of binge drinking...mixed up drink orders (oopsie)....various hijinks.
All of us are far from perfect, but why put the extra burden on yourself? It sounded like you were carrying a heavy burden to begin with, so why add more?
So why hang around places where drunks congregate?

If i relapse into a heap....guess i will have to stiff arm the get togethers...for now education about alcohol has been enough for me to decide to never drink again...
Booze is a drug...not a mysterious force.
Thanks for the post.

The casino is practically the only place where I'm handed a drink without getting it myself. I always sniff and sip tentatively to make sure they handed me my order, not because I'm scared I will accidentally drink alcohol, but because I don't want to and they're busy, easy for accidents to occur. I've never avoided places or situations involving drinking, but I have avoided putting alcohol in my mouth, on purpose , consciously, because I don't want to drink alcohol.
Good for realizing the mistake, maybe be more careful, it was your fault.

For the most part bar attendance has faded into the past for me. I was just thinking back to when I was hitting the bar here in Lakeside and I don't remember anyone not drinking?
They tell me that if I keep hanging out at the barber shop that I may just end up with a haircut?
M-Bob

I'm not sure all this barbershop talk is entirely fair. At a few months in I started hanging around with my drinking friends again. I went to bars, I had zero interest in drinking but still enjoyed myself. It helped me to have had two examples of amazing guys who were non drinkers who never let that fact stop them from going wherever they wanted.
Anyhow, I never needed a bar to drink. I did my heaviest drinking in my house, not at a bar.

I agree with Scott's advice bud hanging out with mates at a bar during this time the temptation could be very high & things can go wrong very quickly
Maybe you & hour mates could do something without the booze ?
