Spam is invoked!

When I first joined the Weekender thread about every fourth post was spam related

You would be surprised what it says on a tin of spam

Behan and all.

When I was growing up, my mother would occasionally make what we call "funeral sandwiches" as they were served -- well, you guessed it. Spam, eggs, pickles, onions. Delish.

Well I'm interested in photography and my brother gave me a camera a a gift the Christmas before last which I should make more use of so I'm interested in that. I used to go to yoga as well which I enjoyed although it makes me feel sleepy sometimes.

I often think it would be nice to learn a language although that seems like hard work! My therapist says I've come a long way I just need to get out a bit more.

Truthfully my 2 best friends here are both married with jobs - no kids - but I know they are busy and I don't like to bother them too much, although we are meeting on Sunday to take their dogs for a walk. My other friend is going back to her own country for a holiday and I know shes busy with that. My other friend lives a long way from here.

I did text my old collegue from the hospital after I ran into her in the coffee shop one day. I did say we have to meet up as I owe them a 'mocktail'. She texted me yesterday to say she was pleased to see me looking so well and she hasn't forgotten about our night out but she will be busy for the next 2 weekends. So I am trying to socialise a little bit more.

And it's good for me too. When I think back to all those years stuck at my parents. I was anxious, depressed, drinking and too scared to even take the bus into town. I went for a walk around the college earlier and I thought 'you really have come a long way'.

In the meantime I'll just stick close to SR. I'll see if I can get us to part 4 this week.

Sao... I remember that time frame of the weekenders. That was a while ago. I could not even imagine the weekender without you here.

Like so many. Doing this for a few years now people come and go. Sad to not see the old faces but good to know others come and spend some time with us.

This thread and starting it off each week is something I treasure. Helps steady my ship. Spam and bacon and all.

Thanks to each of you for being here!!!

I had a fantastic veggie Banh Mi! This was amazing and the coconut soup again.

OK... DA time then early bed. I want to be up at dawn to do a nice 5 K run again along the water.

Talk soon!

K

Spam Pate' on Ritz crackers with an olive...

did you know that desert/dessert is the only word (2 syllable) you can type on a qwerty keyboard in which every letter is 'touching' the next letter on the keyboard? Not counting qwerty as a word of course.

This is awesome advice- thanks so much!!!

Tetra sometimes I'll go for very long periods of time without socializing- even up to a month.
I'm pretty social- I just get into zones where I like to be by myself.
We each have our own ways xo
I'm so proud of you- I want to squeeze you!!

I think Spam is covered in this old Saying:

'Two things you never want to see being made are Sausage, and Legislation'.

Totally tore down and re-furbed - over 3 Hours - a free Evaporative 'Swamp' Cooler that does this Super-Insulated House well. It's supposed to hit 95 F [35 C] this Weekend. THEN, the Cooler leaked while we were prepping for Lunch out. All over a large Closet it's in temporarily w/Fresh Air feed through a Window.

My Forensic Analysis, pulled out of a dark & stinky place... When I chiseled some Hard Water Crust off the lil Float Gizmo that controls the incoming Water level, that level must have risen via the now 'lighter' Float. Didn't see that one coming. The Water then overflowed. Quite the pisser, and the usual simple House-related procedure gone all Fuster Cluck_y. No Livers were harmed in the culmination of this Swamp Cooler Procedure, however. I'm now washing every Utility Towel we own because we used them all when sopping up.

Which reminds me, Sober P... Don't make significant changes to Trailers when Camping. Mister Murphy and his Law will masticate your Posterior when you can least afford it. Make such changes at Home where the Tools and Big Box Stores are. Trust me on this one...

I've been thinking about this Tune since I came out of the Hills - Helen Gone from Aspen - and later read Ken's brilliant Opener this Week at a Regional Dog Park. I append the words '... Of My Life' to the Song Title.

Saddle up, Soberists, and - if appropriate - make it happen from a fresh start. It's not as if you have something more important to do...

I want to also thank Ken for this particular weekender message. It meant a lot to me. It's easy, I think, for most of us to look back on things and feel twinges (if not hard hits over the head with a hammer!) of regret after having spent ANY amount of time drunk, hungover, depressed, anxious, and spinning our wheels because of a substance of any kind, really. It's easy to feel we've wasted some time. Maybe we did. Or maybe it wouldn't have been any other way, who knows? We could wax philosophical, or just be practical and get on with our lives as best we can.

I want to thank so many of you for being such great examples of sober adults who aren't wallowing in regret or despair... you're doing stuff, kicking butt, cleaning house, cleaning yards, building things, traveling, working at jobs, running businesses, going to school, moving away from parents, and eating some really great chocolate and ice-cream while you're doing it.

Ken, and everyone...

Mesa, a lighter float should shut off the water sooner. If it's a hollow brass float you might have exposed a hole or maybe some linkage got bent.
