How did SR start?
 

Just sitting here reading and not drinking so that's good. Do not know why but I'm curious how this wonderful site got started. Was it one individual ? Just wondering

Good question. I'm interested in the answer myself.

Thought it was a dumb question. It's just amazing how many people " need" this site. I know I do. Just like to know how it came to be.

I've often thought it would be nice if SR had a little "about us" section that briefly describes how this place came to be.

I do recall reading somewhere that it had origins with one man who, in the earlier days of the internet, realized the power the online world could have to help alcoholics and addicts.

Jon heller....I needed to know that name. Just important for me to know the story. After dozens of attempts at sobriety I feel like SR is really doing it for me. I think that story should be posted right up front. Thank you for finding it!

Back in the day we nicknamed SR 'the house that Jon built'.

We have come a long way. I joined in 2003, but MG and Ann had already been around for about a year by then.
