What I did last weekend instead of drinking. How about you?

I went backpacking with a couple of friends. We covered 23 miles of the North Country Trail and camped out overnight.

We were out of cell range and out in the wilderness, no other people, no cars or trucks or human noises.

Close camaraderie. Physical exercise. Silence. Nature. Weary feet in cool streams. Rewarding achievement. The sensation of walking barefoot on the earth after a hard effort. Being caught in a downpour and thunderstorm - then the glorious joy of drying out in the afternoon sun on a remote piece of blacktop.

There's a lot of really great things to do in this life, apart from drinking.

What did you do last weekend instead of drinking?

Painted my new lounge and now it looks great, much more like my place. Went to bed each night aching and exhausted, but with a real sense of achievment and freedom. If I'd been drinking, I doubt I'd be here, certain I wouldn't have been decorating and I wouldn't remember going to bed.
xx

Nothing too special. Took my son to the Y, read a lot of SR, played with the kiddos in the pool on Saturday. Got stuff ready for this weekend's garage sale on Sunday, and then took my daughter to the in-laws Sunday evening for an overnight.

Highlights were: Game of Thrones season finale (watched it sober so I actually remembered it the next day!) and, of course, staying sober all weekend.

those all sound pretty special, considering that had you been drinking probably none of it would have happened.

I actually had a really rough week. I wound up in the ER and was out of work with Dr. visits etc. last week and this week. I've been feeling crappy lately (like horribly crappy) and turns out I have an auto-immune disorder. Anyway, I have a specialist now and am on medication/doing a new diet/supplement regime. I feel a bit better. The other day I thought "wow, I had a major health crisis and I felt like everything was out of control, and I still didn't drink or allow them to give me a benzo in the ER."

This weekend I'm driving up to the lake. Not just any lake, it's called Lake Atitlan and it's an amazing place. It's essentially in a huge, ancient volcanic crater and it's a very dramatic scene. Should be nice. Harrowing drive, though, will be driving slowly and carefully. Upon arriving we have rented a nice cabin right on the water.

I'm sorry you've been going through that!!

At the same time - how much worse would you have been feeling with all that you're going through if you were also drunk!

Congrats on staying sober in challenging times

Last weekend I spent getting ready for this weekend - my nephew's wedding.
I received the wedding itinerary, which noted a 2 hour cocktail "hour" and my first thought was "thank God I don't drink anymore, otherwise, I would have been guaranteed to be drunk by dinner and then had an evening I wouldn't even remember.

Instead, I will visit with folks, check out the grounds and look forward to enjoying a great meal.

And I will be fully present for every moment. Totally looking forward to this!

Sobriety rocks!!!

I wrote out a structured plan for my next big project. I couldn't have done that while drinking. It was great to be re-focused and going after my passion once again. I will be at the helm of this project so it'll be great to see it come to fruition under my sober guidance.
I also got a serious workout in at the gym and have re-dedicated myself to the health & fitness lifestyle (but I still hate cardio).
Whole different world.
