Canadian Newbie

Hello to whoever is reading this.

I've never been on a forum for anything before but I guess this is the first of many firsts happening in my life.

My story is that I am addicted to alcohol and it is profoundly effecting my marriage. I have given alcohol currency in life and now I'm ready to start the journey to sobriety.

I've tried to stop "cold turkey"a few times but end up shacking and getting sick. I'm starting to limit my in take and avoid triggers in hopes these small steps will lead to something.

Anyways, any advice or support to whoever reading this would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome jhlpepper

I moved your post to the Newcomers main forum - more response that way

If you've been sick giving up before, it's probably a good idea to see a Dr to help you through withdrawal.

Apart from that - this is a great place to be. You'll find a wealth of support encouragement and experience here

I recommend this link for starting to think about a recovery plan

Welcome from another Canadian. You've come to the right place. Sounds like you are suffering alcohol withdrawal symptoms. I've been through withdrawal many times and have ended up in the ER. A doctor can give you medication to ease the withdrawal symptoms. Start there

Early days are tough for most everyone, but certainly possible to get through them. When alcohol starts being valued highly in our lives, that's when the trouble usually starts. This site can be an invaluable resource if you use it.

I read it daily.

A fellow Canadian here too - I hope that you talk to your dr about your decision to stop drinking. Stopping altogether is generally much easier than tapering off, but detoxing without your drs approval might be dangerous. You will find lots of support here.

Welcome jhlpepper!

I would also recommend seeing a Doctor to help you through withdrawal. You don't need to suffer needlessly. I tried cutting back, it would work for a few days , then I would go on a major bender. Giving up alcohol altogether was much easier and less stressful.

You'll find lots of support here.
