Might as well introduce myself.

Hi, I'm A and I'm an alcoholic. I quit drinking last Monday. And I've relapsed 3 times since then. So I guess I really didn't quit. So I'm quitting again today. I've wanted to quit drinking for years and for years I haven't been able to. I don't know what else to say, except I need help. So I'm here, and I'm working Celebrate Recovery, but I haven't been to any meetings yet (ever). I really want to stay sober this time. This is the last time I want to feel like death from alcohol. My last drink was probably 8 hours ago - at the bottom of the bottle, although I don't remember exactly because I passed out soon after. I want this to be it. I want to be sober for good. Thanks for all your support!

Welcome gone,

Welcome aboard.

Eat when you crave. I never liked to drink on a full stomach.

Quitting just because you want to quit is not my area.

I am pressing 14 months clean and still have minor anxiety every day.

If you give yourself a chance to get through detox, about a month, the real brain damage will show through.

Post when you crave.

Alcohol fries your brain. Get clean. Change your life a bit. Stay clean.

Welcome goneundone. I wanted to get sober too. Tomorrow marks 6 months for me, and though difficult at times far far better than when drinking. Highly recommend it. Keep posting.

Everything leads me back to drinking. Good times, bad times, social times, alone times. I had 4 days sober under my belt last week and it's like I forgot all the bad ways alcohol makes me feel. I forgot all about the time lost being drunk, blacked out and the hangover.. I had 2 weeks sober under my belt before that and a friend came into town and I threw that away and went on a two week bender. But this is it. I want freedom from alcohol addiction.

Hi goneundone.

Steely's by-line, "No way 'round it but through it" sums up the work of recovery.

Good luck and keep coming back.

Welcome Gone. Like Least said, this community is a great place with a ton of support and wisdom.

You absolutely can do this, use us to help you through the tough times.

Come up with a plan for when the thoughts of drinking creep back into your mind. Play it forward in your mind of what tomorrow will be like if you take that drink today; always remember the crap that drinking brings into your life. Likewise, think about how your day tomorrow will be if you don't drink. Everything will fall into place as long as you don't drink.

Welcome to SR.

Gone, Welcome! And, congratulations on 4 days sober!

I think it's so important to know that stopping drinking is the beginning. But, we need to make lifestyle changes in order to support our recovery,

I think that's pretty common - it was with me

Posting and reading here daily - getting involved in the community - really helped me stop short the next time I wanted to drink.

It helped me 'play the tape through to the end' (or the DVD if you like)...

It made me focus on the consequences and results of that decision to drink...

I hope SR can do the same for you

Why not join the Class of June support thread? you'll find it on the main Newcomers Forum page
