Forgot to explain: my landlady (from India) knows how to make marmalade from them.

Orange marmalade is a favorite of mine. I remember my father and I slathering it onto toasted English Muffins for breakfast or a snack.

Thanks for the memory, trachs.

Yes, Caramel!

It is Paulownia Tomentosa. It’s called the Empress Tree, and it’s native to China. Its name honors Anna Pavlovna of Russia.

Wikipedia categorizes it as a “persistent exotic invasive in North America” (and who knows where else?).

Way to go! You figured it out without even seeing my second clue, a close up of the leaves!

Is it “caverns” or vessels in some bodily organ?

No! I think it’s the buttressed tree roots of the Australian Bay Fig (ficus macrophylla).

Yes, it is the root system from a Bay Fig tree! Awesome, isn't it?!!!

This particular one is in Sarasota's Marie Selby Botanical Gardens.
