Can't get sober, so I'm joining the military

Big big mistake. I speak from experience; the military is serious business, not a rehab. Get sober first, then consider the military.

The military only made me a more functional alcoholic. I'm proud that I served and somehow got my 4 years done, but I didn't enjoy it most of the time.

It's in the military that I learned how to drink. I think you should join an organization because you believe in it. Believe me, it's not like being in a treatment center where you get checked up on. Hell, even at the end of basic they'll usually let you go home on leave and you can fall right back into your ol' bottle (or can) of poison. And when you hit your first permanent duty station - forget about it! I won't go on...

But yeah, join a cause or org that you believe in. But get other help for alcoholism. Hope that helps!
