fat

At a bbq and everyone keeps offering me a drink. I keep saying no but they keep saying taste this taste that. I'm sticking to my guns but am a little depressed because everyone also keeps commenting on how fat I have gotten. I'm so embarrassed. .

Why are you staying? I'd be out the door if people were that rude to me.

These people don't sound like friends. If it were me, I'd leave and not associate with them again. Geez...some people are really vile.

Those are not people you should be hanging out with.

During my worst drinking period, I put on about 40 pounds. Because it was gradual over a year, I didn't really see how fat and bloated I had gotten. my alcoholic mind just didn't see it when I looked in the mirror. It was only when I went to a social function and saw the looks of shock on other peoples faces did I realize I had really ballooned. so I know what you're going through

Why are you staying there? Leave, and go somewhere where you feel comfortable and people appreciate you.

I was away for the winter and relapsed. During that time, I've gained 20 pounds. Now that I'm back, I'm even embarrassed to go to exercise class. I echo the advice of others to get out of that situation. We are quite emotionally fragile now and need to surround ourselves with positive, life affirming people and events. Hang in there.

Tonib...I hope you are okay, in early sobriety I was often the first to leave at functions...it was important, that, I only did what I could handle while I was learning to navigate sobriety...
Head high and shoulders back, I would leave, sober.

I would leave your BBQ and if possible go and do something nice for yourself.

Tonib-

That makes me so mad. People can be so rude.

I would get out of there and go have fun doing something I enjoyed not involving alcohol.

Makes me wonder where these people got their manners.

tonib, I'm really sorry you experienced this. You did a great job refusing to drink, despite the offers.

I'm with everyone else... I hope you left.

Sending you hugs, nobody deserves this treatment.

I don't know those people and it isn't my place to judge them. But if it was I'd say, "what a bunch of _________ heads.` But it`s not my place. But really, man, some peoples kids. Absolutely no class.

I did end up leaving and finally got home and now watching TV sober. I'm hurt regarding the comments but I'm not going to make it make me drink. I'm already working on my weight but that's not my first priority my first priority is staying sober. Hopefully by doing that I will loose some weight.

Wow, that's awful! Why would people be so mean?

I hated the 'just taste it' comments today too but I made sure I had something else to drink (non-alcoholic, usually coffee) in my hand pretty much the whole day. Worked for me.

It gets better, hang in there.
