cannot drink anymore?

I have no idea why but I cannot seem to drink now. Even with just half a beer I get this puke feeling. I used to be able to drink 8-12 beers but now I just cannot drink at all. Is this a physical problem?

It sucks because im trying to quit but when I cannot drink it makes it worse

Hi Oz

none of us are doctors - it might be a physical thing or a mental one. Have you considered getting yourself checked out by a Doc?

yeah but the thing is, if I went to see a doctor for every problem I get, I'd be there every day

I suggested a Dr cos while it might be something really simple, it might be serious - who knows?

seems like this is a blessing. If you want to quit, then this is another great motivation for it.

but "trying to quit"?

That's a bit of a misnomer isn't it? Unless you're drinking in your sleep.... then you need not 'try to quit'. All you need to do is NOT START.

I don't get it. You're trying to quit but you're still trying to drink? And because you can't drink anymore because it makes you feel sick that makes it hard to quit?

thanks for clearing that up for me... I was wondering the same thing...

Like Dee states, seeing a doctor is in your best interest. The thing is, many folks who visit the doctor hold back a lot of information. Unless you are completely truthful with the doctor about everything, they are just guessing. Don't make the doctors guess.

I got that pukey feeling at the end of my drinking.

I'd have to hold my nose and gag a drink down, and I still often threw it up.

My body was done with booze well before my mind was.
I view it in hindsight as a great blessing that got my attention
and got me stopped.

Trying to taper never worked for me.
If drinking is making you sick, tapering makes even less sense.

Face the fear and tell your Dr you want to stop drinking, tell them drinking's been making you ill, and ask what they can do to help cos you're scared of withdrawals.

I, too got sick all the time too, never threw up blood, which was when I realized that it was time to seriously quit. Like Hawkeye-- my body in more ways then puking was ready to quit.

It was a blessing in disguise and my wake up call to make a choice. I made the right one-- QUIT!

I was puking fairly regularly towards the end of my drinking. I used to shoot half a beer in order to empty my stomach so that I could drink vodka. I also had a difficult time keeping food down. Later on, I experienced projectile vomiting out of the blue.

I diagnosed myself with acute pancreatitis and never sought medical help for it. That was, unfortunately, not the most stupid thing I did while I was drinking.

If drinking is making you sick, that's a sign it's time to stop drinking. I hope you can get sober for good. It's worth the effort it takes.

Four years ago, right before I went into detox, I was experiencing the same thing. That was my wake up call that I needed to put a stop to it before it was too late. A visit to your doctor would be a great place to start on this one. Minimizing the unpleasantness of withdrawal and addressing the malnutrition caused by an alcohol-inflamed digestive system are the most important things that your doctor can help you with right now.

That actually makes no sense ya know? But neither does alcoholism, so hey you fit right in I have so many complete rubbish thoughts and rationals and reactions and choices....it rather amazes me at times.

If you read about the 'stages' of alcoholism, it is common for late stage alcoholics to lose their toleration to alcohol. The liver simply cannot process the booze anymore and it stays in the system much longer. I'm sure its much more complex than that but that's the gist.

I would flip your thinking around, see this as a blessing and warning. Good news? You quit and your body and mind begin to heal. Winner winner chicken dinner.
