Scary wake up call. Vomiting blood.

Been lying to myself for years with this love and hate relationship with alcohol. Guess I can't make anymore excuses. God help me but I have to kick this now.

If you're vomiting blood, you need to get yourself to an ER now.

I agree with strategery that you should get yourself to a doctor as soon as possible. Vomiting blood is a really bad sign, and need to start the detox process under supervision if it has gone this far. I say this not to nag, but because I really do care about your well being. I have lost far too many family members over alcohol related diseases. They drank themselves to death. You still have a chance, please get help.

I hear you but it is only spotting and I don't need detox, just to stop. Detoxed at home a few weeks ago and only binge off and on since then. I should be able to stop with only discomfort. Just staying clean ugh is the issue. Realize I've been spotting a few weeks now but was black. Today was the first red day I couldn't deny what was happening.

You really need to get checked out. Black blood is not any better than red. This could be totally benign. Pls. Don't minimize this. Don't panic, but be proactive.

Qualified medical professionals are the ones to determine whether you're well or not, Sobertaurus. Please listen to Dee and others here and go to the emergency room now.

I hope you are ok. Vomiting blood or even "spotting" is really bad. I'll say some prayers.

Vomiting or Spotting, Black or Red.....A possible GI bleed is nothing to mess with. A GI bleed untreated could lead to sepsis. Sepsis untreated = death. Please get checked out.

Don't mess with this. I've watched a lot of intervention shows. Just go and get some treatment and on the mend by a professional. NOW! It's hopefully ok but nothing to ignore or think might go away. See your doc asap.

I started vomiting blood in October. It was a major wake up call, so I made more of an effort to quit, and get my health checked out. Turns out, I've done a lot of damage.

Hope you figure it out.

This is a sign that your body is literally rejecting the alcohol. Take it as a sign from God that he wants you to get help and STOP drinking. Your disease wants you dead. Cunning, baffling, powerful.

Go to a doctor ASAP.

Keep fighting<3

Scary wake up call. Vomiting blood.
Some will never heed the warnings.
I have known some.
Believe me, this would be an excellent time to stop drinking.
You will probably feel much better in short time.
Don't wait until it's too late.
Good luck,

You have reminded me of a friend that returned to drinking and died
without going into details and sticking to your [thread title]
it was a mess when they found him in his home.
Bob

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. A wake up call is never not scary. I went to the ER two summers ago after having horrifically painful diarrhea and some bright red bleeding. Just for the fact that I was given an IV to replenish lost fluids, but more so for having gotten things professionally checked out, gave me MUCH better peace of mind about something incredibly scary. A similar repeat of this happened recently, though not nearly as painful, and I went to a doctor appointment instead of the ER, but I couldn't believe it happened again, something so scary that I couldn't believe had happened even once. Looking back, it seems silly to not have expected issues like this, and especially repeats if I don't change anything. I am on Day 2 now, and I thank you for this post, as it reminds me of the things we have to or may have to contend with if we aren't vigilant in sobriety and taking care of ourselves.

I know everyone has already said it, but I also think you need to get to the ER (or even urgent care) right away, if only to replenish fluids and to get a diagnostic process underway. When I went in, they mentioned that bright red tends to be less worrisome than darker, because it means it hasn't been backed up and oozing (for lack of a better word) somewhere in the GI tract for a time. The fact that you are seeing some black blood may mean that there is a chronic underlying bleed somewhere to be dealt with. I know if it was me I wouldn't take the following advice because I can be a hypochondriac, haha, but don't panic. Just get to the doctor so that you can take care of whatever is causing this. They will likely have some help for you, too, as far as stopping the binge drinking. I know the two times I had back door bleeding were after heavier binges.

Please keep us posted on how you're doing!! I will be thinking of you.
