Sober weekend success

I'm wrapping up day nine.

One of my biggest worries future-wise was going to my boyfriend's gigs - I don't want to drink, but they play in bars. I just say through a four hour show with o'douls and (for the Big Bang Theory fans!) a couple of virgin cuba libres. It helped that, because it was a classier venue, I was joined by my mom, brother, and SIL, who are all sober. I won't always have that with me, but I proved I could do it! What a RELIEF to drive home with both eyes open!

It's 2am and I am still looking pretty good, rather than smudged with an "oh well" attitude. Did some shopping this evening beforehand, and normally would've picked up some vodka and started my night while I got ready to go. Didn't even sound good, the thought actually turned my stomach a bit.

Did three hours of shopping after four hours of crocheting on an afghan I'm working on. Most productive Saturday I've had in a very long time.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend too!

O'douls i think is 0.5 % alcohol ..

We all have our own limits and plans CherryB mine is usually a fizzy water with ice and a slice of lemon , real thirst quenching and not easy for anyone to mistakenly put alcohol in …. then me feeling obliged to drink it .

Keep on,
m

That's brilliant to hear Cherry! We get so much more done in sobriety. Congrats on Day 9!

If it is 0.5%, it wasn't enough to notice or trigger any desire to drink any hard stuff, so I guess that's what counts? I consider it NA. I think between my brother, mom, and I, they'll have to restock! We each had a couple of those.

Good to hear on the day 9!

I saw your post and knew you would get responses on the alcohol content of O'Douls.

Most of us drink for the alcohol content and when abstaining, drinking something that tastes like it should have alcohol that produces no effect can be risky. Some here even go as far as making sure that what they're eating has no alcohol in it.

You have to find what works for you. Just be mindful.

Again, great on 9 days and realizing you can have a fun evening without partying!

I was never much of a beer drinker and that wasn't my drink of choice ever, so that maybe made a difference? I'm not sure. I liked the taste and that was enough. When my drinking got bad it was all hard liquor, and this to me was nothing like that. I do understand the concern, though, and I do appreciate it!

Happy you didn't cave, Cherry. It's very challenging to be around alcohol in the early days. Good for you.
