It's a gorgeous day. It's Friday evening. Perfect night to sit out and enjoy the view with a beverage.

Helga (AV) never thought to whisper her presence til a friend just sent a pic of her deck view and beverage and invited me to join. Friend has no idea of my sober journey but that's all it took for Helga to say "you know... It would be a lovely night to sit outside and enjoy a beer or six."

Damn her.

She isn't welcome. And I will not drink damnit.

Just my opinion, but Helga might have a harder time of it if everyone you know, knows her.

keep fighting her and eventually she'll die, then youll be able to sit out and enjoy the evening and view like i am- here in my backyard, on the deck, watchin momma robin gettin food for her youngens, watchin flowers grow, watchin my dog layin in the sun and occasionally chasin bugs, and lovin life.

there WAS a time i never thought id enjoy this without an alcoholic beverage, but it happened and now im rather addicted to moments like this.

agreed. I responded to my friend and said, "truth be told I've given up alcohol, but it's a beautiful night to sit outside." She said, "well in that case I have water, too. :-)". 😊

I don't exactly want to broadcast my sobriety though given the questions that would undoubtedly follow.

I agree about telling some people in your life about your decision to stay sober. I am not exactly walking around with a sign announcing "hey world! I am a problem drinker!" but I have told my "inner circle" - mainly so I'd be more accountable.

You don't have to tell anyone why you're not drinking, just that you aren't drinking anymore.

fair point. I have a momentary panic of what to say when it comes up with someone who doesn't know. I've mentioned it here and there to some people, but since it's not exactly a conversation started it catches me off guard when it randomly comes up. Crises averted :-)

I can sit out on someones deck anytime I like regardless of who else is drinking.
I'm not bothered a bit now
