Hi all! I am up enjoying time at Lake Atitlan, tomorrow will make 1 full week here at my vacation rental home here. Will drive back to the valley tomorrow afternoon.

What are some good hobbies for newbies on sober weekends? Photography is a great way to kill time, enjoy nature, and even share some of your expressions. The "killing time" part was hard for me in the beginning and this was a great way.

The owner of the property lives up the hill and he invited me to bring my camera for "Hummingbird Rush Hour" at 5pm yesterday. Here are a few of my snaps!

Very cool, BigS! So many varieties! Up here in the northland, we only get one kind - Ruby-throated. My guy friend has a cabin even further north, and he get hoards of them up there. They are fun to watch in the early evening when they dive-bomb each other to get at the feeders. They can be pretty mean to each other!

Fantastic shots, yet again!

Agree wholeheartedly, Big S. Photography is a quiet pursuit, one that can yield great satisfaction as you see your skills improve. I've also found that it is a pastime that prevails upon us to search for beauty, both in nature and the interesting aspects of life around us. Take your time; photography can be peaceful.

You don't need to be a big gearhead to enjoy photography, either. The quality built into newer mobile phones is really exceptional.

Photography has helped me a lot. In early sobriety, my biggest challenge was *not* reverting to autopilot and heading to a store after work. Instead, there were days I'd go home, grab my camera and head to a nearby park. In fact, I know there were days photography kept me sober.

The nice thing about after work photography is that it coincides with the 'golden hour,' the time when the sun is less intense. That alone makes pictures better.

BigSombrero, those pictures remind me of the time when Donald Duck tried to take pictures of humming birds....

Can someone explain to me why it was necessary for brain to get to page 3? I don't get it. Just curious...

The large image on page two messed up the text boxes.

...and I officially spend too much time in forums if that is something I notice!

Ohhhhh. Ok. I'm on an iPad using the app, so big pictures aren't a problem, but I understand.

Upper management off for the rest of the week, so my Weekender lurking capabilities just increased tenfold.
Pup is joining me at the office for today and tomorrow.

Does it get any better? I think not!

Olive's breaking the rules! Olive's breaking the rules! Yay for Olive!

Photography. I go through phases. But I do like it a lot. I don't have a nice digital camera anymore. I have film cameras still but don't use them either. So I use my phone. When Mr. Ruby eventually returns to work I'd like to get a phone with a better camera.

Nice pics BigS.

sorry folks... my petulance sometimes gets the better of me... on my computer, what is normally about 5 lines of text turns into one looooooooooooooooooooong line of text when a huge pic is posted. heck I had to scroll quite a ways to find the 'reply' box

awesome pics BigS -
Olive, is it take your dog to work day?
I made lunch for the wife, then I made the mistake of eating most of it... fortunately it is a 'can add to it' dish of shells, sausage and tomato sauce.
So round 2 is on the stove...

seems like I've already used up my allotment of posts for the day...

welcome newcomers, the main rule for the weekender is to post here before you drink and ask permission first, or post whenever you are having difficulty... although I don't make the rules, it is a suggestion

suid, close but no ice cream...
later.....................
