Help!
Help!
I am glad I found this chat room. My story isn't any different then anyone else's. Found myself hooked on Vodka, and started drinking heavily for about 3 years. In the morning, after work, and all day sometimes. I quit for about 2 weeks, and then hopped right back on the wagon. I lost my job due to drinking lots of friends and family and made the decision that I need to get sober.
I don't have insurance at the moment being unemployed and all, so I am going through detox myself, which I know isn't smart, but I have an AOD counselor as a dear friend that helps me.
Any help or advice would be well received and appreciated.
Thanks!

Glad you have someone close by that can help Camery - and welcome to SR.
Regarding your question about cravings, there are no "magic" pills or procedures that can eliminate cravings completely. Withdrawals are a physical and mental reaction by your body to not having alcohol in them anymore, and only time will make them eventually stop.
You could seek out help via a recovery meeting or here on SR to help you mentally deal with them and learn to cope with them. Living near Milwaukee you should have lots and lots of options for AA and other recovery meetings to attend, most likely there are several today you could get to. And you could probably call ahead and get a ride if you need it too.

Thanks Scott! I did look up some AA meetings and there are some nearby at a Lutheran Church. I am anxious by nature, and have lupus, so this is having more of an effect on me then normal.
Welcome Camery! I hope our support can help you get sober for good.
And actually, this isn't the chat room. You'll find Chat at the top right corner of the page, next to 'log out'.

No one at the meetings will care if you are anxious or have lupus...they will just be happy that you are there and ready to start getting better!

Having someone close I believe is important. Obviously stay hydrated and eat if possible. Once you get through the critical phase and feel better, the temptation will likely return. That is the time to show strength and lean on the good people here BEFORE you drink.
Welcome! having some healthy sugar around like orange juice will help with cravings. Be sure to eat and healthy, like small meals throughout the day. B1 (thiamine) a good choice. Stay in close contact and have a plan.
Thanks! Day 1 is almost over. So far, the shakes have gone away, and with the help of some anxiety medication prescribed by my doctor, I was able to calm my nerves. I didn't take it much, since the alcohol was doing that.
I also contacted my bible study ministry for some help.
