Just wondering what vitamins etc people used when stopped drinking and what they feel helped there body repair.

I got vitamin b1 today and also rehydration salts. Anything else recommended ?

I didn't take anything when I quit. But when I had been sober about a year, I went to the doctor's and as part of my checkup had blood work done. I was low for vitamin D.

Don't know if it was related to my years of drinking or not.

Best way to see where you might be deficient is to have a CBC run.

Hi. I too was worried about the vitamins I was deficient in because of the drinking.
I'm taking a multivitamin, b-complex, iron, and its also zinc and magnesium (as these get used up when you're bodies trying to metabolize the alcohol).
Magnesium is also good to take because it helps your body deal with stress and anxiety..it's kind of like a calming mineral.

I think due to the alcohol, we don't absorb nutrients that well..so give it time and have a well balanced diet.

I have also been drinking a lot of ice cold water with lemon in it. Seems to help curb the cravings and I feel it helps with bloat. Gatorade is good too.

To reinforce what Carl said. I went to my doctor for a complete checkup along with blood tests. That is the best way to find out any deficiencies that you may have. Each person's body processes things slightly different and everyone's diet is different. A good multivitamin probably wouldn't hurt but taking to much of some supplements can be dangerous.

B vitamins are what they give us in detox here and what I took at home after my last relapse.

Milk Thistle is good for helping the liver. I have always stayed active and take a ton of supplements. A good multi, B complex, amino acids, and get your electrolytes. I can go a few days of missing them and my body lets me know, so I take them daily.

Plenty of water and a high fiber diet may help with the bloating and constipation.

Best wishes

Please talk to your dr about vitamins and supplements.

We cannot give any kind of medical advice here.

As Anna says we don't know things like what other meds people are on or what their general health is like

None of us are Doctors. That's why we always recommend seeing a Dr about supplement advice and why we ask others to share their experience, but not to make recommendations.

What did your Dr say Tambdy?
