Detox

I'm going into detox on Monday morning. I'm scared. I also don't know what to bring. Any suggestions or advice?

Bring comfort items. Whatever that will bring you comfort (and is allowed).

How long will you be there? When I went to detox (twice) it was for five days and I brought clothes and a book. Also cigs.

Congratulations!

This should be the first, last, only time you go.

Approach it that way and do what you are told, make yourself a "model student" and "graduate with honors". The people at your facility are proffesionals and know what they're doing; respect that and be willing.

Sobriety, detox, rehab is lifelong, not temporary and we are going to begin treatment for life, not to "get fixed" or cured. THis is where we begin to receive the tools and develop our sobriety plan.

If you embrace the change you'll become willing; and gain the respect for yourself and YOUR sobriety that is necassary to maintain it.

Work hard, enjoy and embrace this beautiful opportunity...

YOU CAN DO IT...heck, I did!

So that's what you need to bring mentally.
Physically; change of clothes, think comfort not style, toiletries. Favorite writing tools & journal materials. The facility will provide plenty of reading material.

Aside from clothes, note pad etc. Haven been there a few time I and people I met crave something salty after a few days so I take chips even though when sober I rarely eat them, pop and chocolate.

Being anxious is pretty normal but what a blessing to be able to be in a safe place to sober up and get help.
