*Ring Ring* Sober Weekender May 6
Ooh, and Tetra: your Granny sounds like an extremely wise woman. No need to call your reading / acquiring of books an addiction, luv. Just tell people you're a bibliophile, quite a different beast, and classy to boot.
Spain. Madrid and Barcelona are awesome, fun, and really cosmopolitan. And when you get out into the countryside it's gorgeous. Salamanca way out west, Toledo in the center of the country, the Basque country. I am fluent in Spanish which takes that "vulnerability factor" out of the equation. So yeah, Spain is my favorite. And I have tons yet to see there! But my "bucket list" is a mile long.
I've never heard a bad thing about Spain- it sounds like such a delightful place.
hey, Big - great to hear some more / recent stuff about your lifestyle. Jeez, as you and I joined this madcap crowd about the same time in '12, I vaguely recall you talking about this move while still (just) working in Chicago I think it was.
You're a terrific inspiration, for your sobriety and taking the bull by the horns and gettin' out there in the wider world. Salut!

Just got home. I stopped by my favorite supper club to have an iced tea on the way. The venue was so hot - I was parched. It was a long day. I was up at 5:30 this morning doing all the housework I had fallen behind on. Then worked 5 hours. I'm beat I'll catch up on reading here, then try to get to sleep. Still a bit wound up. Goodnight, everyone.
Just got caught up and now I'm ready to go to sleep. Yawn.
I love reading about all your adventures. You are a facinating group.
I'm just full of chicken parmesan. ....yum, it was great, again. I had a nice visit with my friend.
Ok...good night everyone.

I walked over to the ice cream place and got a ginormous thing of snickers ice cream. The group behind me were so stoned I almost got a contact high. I think they hotboxed in the car directly before coming in.
Funny how it seems everyone smokes pot these days, at least around here. I smell it somewhere in the air throughout my day on average three times. Always on the highway at least once a trip.
No one hides it. It makes me uncomfortable bc when we were kids we went to great lengths to try to make sure no one knew. Now ppl walk around practically in a weed hazed cloud and are very nonchalant if ppl know what they're up to.
It's so weird, kids these days. AND GET OFF MY LAWN
bigS, you are a sober inspiration, especially as a fellow Chicagoan. Kudos to you. I love your posts, tmro I'm keeping them in mind as I continue possession purging and getting closer to being a nomad.

Old lady sloth here will now watch the last 2 or 3 gripping eps of Netflix' House of Cards. Fantastic stuff. I adore the original UK version from years ago, so have the added frisson of understanding the gloriously Machiavellian character of it all.
Of course, the grimly sober evaluation of it is: 'sh*^t, life is stranger than art' now. Ergo: the state of so-called democratic polities. Hurrumph!!
Anyway, don't want to foment political wars here in our weekend refuge, team. Will vicariously chomp away on the food porn while I'm watching (and scoffing rich chocky icecream, picked up on special the other day. Evil laugh....)
Sweet dreams, those of you about to fall into bed.

Just before I go, Melina - if you fancy, you could nomad your way over here to Aus, and kick my butt on my (ovextremely overdue) 15th or so attempt in as many years at lightening my clutter load. Have lovely spare bedroom and bathroom, bush and bay both close by, 1 very lovable doggy, and meetings galore. You could bring the virtual edibles too, seeing I barely cook anymore.

What a wonderful offer! You made this sad girl smile tonight!
I would love to go to an Australian AA meeting. I've never been to one outside the US and I've heard when you're traveling internationally, the meetings are awesome and so welcoming when they find out you came to a meeting from abroad.
Thanks, Vic. More travel dream fodder! xoxo
I lost my passport once on a bus ride I took from Merida, Yucatan to San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas. 14 hour bus ride. It was the year 2000. Just in case the bus ride is faster now and you're wondering, lol.
They held it for me at the bus station. No big deal. They were very sweet about it and so happy I came back for it. It was touching.
But I can't keep my passport safe in my ONE BEDROOM APARTMENT. SOBER.
Ok that should be enough. I think that's all of the ranting and pity partying I have left. I mean, I have more but you all get the picture.
I will take hugs and offers of coming to your tropical locale to visit. That would make me feel a whole lot better. That Australia offer cheered me up a bunch. Jus sayin.
Xoxo
Mesa, what's good at the Glass Beach, sir? I see you..

I know, right, Melina?? I'll draft my resignation letter tomorrow.
Dear new boss:
I regret to inform you I am putting in my two weeks' notice. I cannot have a job that causes me to forget to buy ice cream and chocolate. It's a matter of life or death. I choose life.
Love, Marty.
