struggling
Hello everyone,
I'm so happy to find online support for my struggle. Last year I had a cancerous lump removed from my breast. Then I suffered a terrible fall where I dislocated my ankle and broke my fibula requiring surgery. Immobile for nearly 3 months I Bacame depressed and started drinking. Now I feel like I can't stop.

I can totally relate to what you wrote. I am a breast cancer survivor, 3 years ago I had a double mastectomy and then 2 years ago (just when I was feeling like I had put the cancer in my rear view mirror) I fell on my way to work and broke my arm and also found out I had Osteoporosis! I felt like my life was over but one thing led to another and what it led me to was deciding to get sober.
Now I can look back with gratitude for how things played out but in the midst of it all, I could only feel pain and disappointment.
I hope you will stick around here and let the wonderful members of SR help you find your strength. This is best place to land!
Welcome!
Implementing a recovery plan is something to seriously give a thought to. Do you have a doctor that can help you with any medicines you might need while stopping drinking, finding a counselor that deals with addiction, and making sure you are honest with those around you and your doctors.
Whether it is meetings, getting a sober circle of friends to lean on, getting new hobbies, and just plain reaching out to whoever you need to to overcome this.
You can do this, for all of us it seemed impossible at first and then we did it

Welcome to SR, Deborahe. Sobriety is a better way of life.
I highly suggest joining and actively participating in the Class of May 2016 thread found on this same forum. It's a great way to learn from and help others who are also new to recovery.
Wishing you the best today...post often! It helps.
