For what it's worth, I attempted the same last year, thinking a period of abstinence would lead to being able to moderate. Instead I wound up drinking more. I routinely kept getting more and more disgusted with myself. Then I woke february 10th determined to make a change. I committed to 28 days of posting here... As I made it through those days I realized I wanted to go longer. I've realized moderation just isn't my thing. I don't enjoy only having one - I resent that isn't have more. And that isn't what 'normies' do. So now here I am on day 83 and feeling really good about this accomplishment. If I take a drink I have to start counting again with day 1... And I don't want to start over.

Please don't try to see what happens this time. That is passive thinking and is setting you up for failure. You need positive resolve. Commitment. You can do it. Look at your screen name. What does it say?

Tranquilseeker,
The problem isn't you....it is that alcohol is an addictive substance, and some of us are more vulnerable to it than others.
Moderation doesn't work.
When I quit this time, I searched the internet for stories of someone that was able to moderate successfully. Couldn't find any!

So take the idea of moderation out of your head, doesn't work.

Only options are to go the way you have been going, OR just quit!
And make your life so much better.

Change your goal to one YEAR not one month. And DO IT!
You absolutely can do this.......and you will not believe how much easier it gets as time goes on....

So....

You're committing to a month of sobriety after two previous months of sobriety have led to things spiraling out of control.....

"We will see what happens this time...."

Uhm.... what is it that you expect is going to happen this time?

The last two commitments to a "month" sober didn't work. Odds are against this attempt working.

Face it. You can't drink and need to commit to sobriety...for life.

I'm glad you recognize that moderation isn't going to work. Abstinence is the answer. I hope that you are ready to do this!

Welcome back, tranquilseeker. Hope you'll decide to stick with this better way of life for more than a month. It keeps getting better, I promise.

Hi tranquilseeker

I think often the difference between spurts of abstinence and ling term recovery is a good solid plan.

This is a great link - I hope you'll read it and think about it:
