claiming my failures

This was my day 2.

I came home ready to go but made the mistake of avoiding going downstairs where I have patterns.

I have made mistakes. I went downstairs right away and then my husband went to the casino until late tonight (he has a gambling problem).

So, anyway, I handled things wrong and want to own up so I can start right and not wait.

Here I am.

Love you all.

Good for you! Good for coming right back and posting and owning up to yourself.
We can do this! Do you have a plan?

I do have a plan. I talked with my husband about what I'm doing going forward. I'm avoiding the entire floor of the house that has alcohol and I'm going to stay upstairs. If I'm feeling too tempted I'll go to our room entirely and watch television or read or something. He knows in advance and supports. I'll walk the dog. I know this can be done.

Can you get all the alcohol out of the house? I know just having it in the same house as me, would make me very nervous. Best Wishes

Mornin ST!
I really agree....is he willing to stop drinking with you? Obviously, you can rely on willpower, but I hate to see you have to deal with those circumstances. I too am in the phase where I'm trying to figure out what to do differently this time...the plan is key.
My other half is a huge support in my plan too....but from what I'm hearing maybe we should branch out a little further. Find a meeting? Then there's a whole other group of people you're held accountable to?
for the time being...try to not dwell on the thought of getting a drink when you get home....just let it enter your mind, acknowledge it without judgement, and let it leave.....repeat...

Well, my mother lives with us, and she drinks. My husband drinks and he doesn't want to stop. They don't get drunk all the time, though. I just need to stay away from them if they're drinking. Our house is a ranch house and the downstairs is a finished basement that opens to the back yard, so it is no big deal to stay on the main level. That's my plan for now, at least, and for them to keep the booze downstairs.

Gotcha....removing booze from our entire world isn't always realistic... I had to work directly with it, pouring drinks for people, avoiding shots with staffmembers....leaving as SOON as the work was done..... so know that it's doable! We live with my folks right now....my dad a recovering alcoholic...and my mom sober Christian her whole life....so i'm lucky to be in that situation right now. I know when we move out in a couple months it will be more tempting...luckily my job REALLY doesn't work well with me being hungover.... and maybe fortunately for me, I always end up hungover...so that's a serious motivation right there!
I'll never understand the people who have wine with dinner....stop there....wake up hangover free..... say what? haha not my style....

That sounds like a good plan, and I love your plan to walk the dog. That's a win-win situation for you and the dog.

If you are struggling, be sure to check in here and read and post.

Good plan ST. My wife still drinks so we have alcohol in the house too. Not the easiest situation early on, but with commitment you can break this cycle. You can only control you.
