Long term success followed by longer term failure

This seems to be a cycle I fall into (and seems like many others too). Really with me it's almost everything. Gym workouts, alcohol, eating decently, and especially work. I get into a focused mentality of making sure my priority is the right thing (not drinking, working out, meeting deadlines at work) for long stretches. But once I break it I fall back into my prior habits, but worsened versions. My question to any and all is if this is the habits of addicts or the habits of a different type? Do all people fall into this mentality? I know serial dieters do. Seems to me serial drinkers do. But do certain people have this issue as well? Thanks all. Happy Monday

Sounds like you might be a perfectionist, and when one brick of the perfect pyramid is out of place, the whole things crumbles. Do I understand that correctly?

In order to maintain your long term success, you must want to be sober more than you want to drink.

For me long term success is dependent on living a different life not trying to make my old life work without alcohol. It is also the certainty that not drinking is the only rational option
