Oh look - another day 1

Another Day 1 for me.
This time I'm feeling less sorry for myself and more fired up and determined.

That's great, hold on to that determination. One Day One will be The Day One, so why not this one? That shift in feeling from defeated to determined can mean everything. Welcome back on the wagon.

I had too many day ones to remember. But I finally 'got it' and now have been sober over six years. Hang in there. You can do this.

I will, as I always do, get through a few days on my own. I've got to work tomorrow (I've got a difficult and demanding job) but will spend the weekend researching what I can do from an extremely rural location. I'm thinking probably AA by phone but may come up with something more / better when I have time to research it.
And I'm reading The Outrun by Amy Liptrot.

Hi Sam,

I had lots of Day 1s as well, however, this NYE I decided I am going to do what it takes to stick with it this time and I have been sober since January 1st (you will see from the date I joined it took me a while!)

I was determined this time, and I had a plan, and have not allowed myself to become complacent. Finally, Least's words that "You need to want to be sober, more than you want to drink." Have stuck in my brain.

You can make this your last day one!! Join the April class, and log into SR to read and post.

Looking forward to seeing you on Day 2 tomorrow.

❤️ Delilah

One thing that helped me a lot was to make an actual list of things I would do when I wanted to drink. I had a couple things each for "wanting to drink/bored", "wanting to celebrate", "physical craving", "wanting to drink/anxious", etc. It was helpful to think it through and write it down.

I hadn't heard of The Outrun, are you liking it? It sounds worth reading from the reviews.

fantail, that is a great idea! Thank you.

I woke up at 4 am this morning and didn't go back to sleep so I'm dead tired but at least I'm NOT HUNGOVER!!!

I'm about half way through The Outrun. Her description of her past, out of control lifestyle is quite disconcerting but now that I'm past that part and on to her sober life, I'm really enjoying it.

As I say, I'm tired but so happy not to be hungover

I hope you're still with me!

Congratulations on day 2 Sam. I'm also in the UK in a very rural area. I used AVRT and being on SR constantly helped me get sober.

I was the only one who knew about many of my "day 1's".

Starting to own up to them was a step in the right direction.

Finally choosing to have no more of them was a turning point.

Truly embracing sobriety and making change, taking action in my life to honor sobriety made all the difference.
