No driving depression

Hello,

I am in a situation where I am unable to drive for over 16 months. This has caused tremendous depression and difficulty in my life. I am an at home mom and drive my kids everywhere. I am also very bored, shame ridden, and sad. I live in a suburb and have no access to public transport. Anyone else in a similar situation or have any words of wisdom. Sobriety is my number one goal but this is even making AA meeting attendence hard and AA is so helpful for me. I am falling into depression I suspect and also feel bad for my family.

Lilly

Sorry for your situation. Is the driving ban the result of your drinking?

I also looked at your few previous posts. You've been sad, miserable, and depressed in most of them. So it's not just that you can't drive. It's just the latest in what you are despairing about.

Have you talked with a doctor about possible depression?

Lastly, a suggestion about the lack of a car. Perhaps there is someone in your neighborhood that will drive you occasionally in exchange for something...babysitting or something. A thought.

I'm sorry for your troubles Lilly. Just remember that all hope is not lost. You are here, looking for help. Bottom line, you've got to stay sober. Use this great community to help you achieve that goal. Everything else will fall into place as long as you stay sober.

I'm really sorry to hear what you are going through. I've been dealing with a suspended license the last week myself. It's not easy, but it's possible to get through it all. I'm fortunate mine is only a month, 16 months sounds tough--but doable. The sponsor I was working with lost their license for 3 years. Be greatful your circumstance isn't worse. I saw a post above about seeing if your neighbors would be willing to help in exchange for whatever you can do for them. It would be my best advice for you. You'll have to rely on the support of your family and friends to get through this. This is why we have them in our lives, to lean on one another in times of need. Stay positive and stay focused as best as you can. Your kids obviously need their mom to be a part of their lives. Live for them and no other. And if your depression is overtaking your life, I also suggest trying to see what kind of help you can get.

Remember you're not alone. Anything is possible through our higher power.

Lilly, are there other Moms with young children at home in your neighborhood. Is there any chance you could connect with one or two of them for some social activities for your children and you. Is there any kind of drop-in centre for moms and caregivers in your neighborhood?

You can always come to SR when you want to feel inspired.

How old are your kids? Are they in school?
Bicycling always makes me happy, although if you are with your kids 24/7, I can see where that is not an option.
