I just wanted to check in.

I am sober and feeling very good about this time around. I am older and I just can't see me spending the rest of my life drinking even if it is periodically. I remember when I went to a treatment center and the volunteer who picked me up at the airport was 86 years old and he had 26 years of sobriety. It is never too late and I will never give up. It would be a great waste of the rest of my life. I've already wasted too many years. I don't want to look back on my life with more regret. The sooner you quit the better you'll feel about yourself and your life. A lesson I wish I'd learned years ago. My future is nothing but positive.

Glad you checked in. So very true that it is never too late as long as we are breathing. I too have had my trials and trips along my journey. I was/am a blackout drinker. We convince ourselves that we will have fun or whatever we tell ourselves to succumb. The reality for a black out drinker is that for that period of time, they did not exist in their minds. A black out is not "forgetting". A black out is that the memories or event is never registered in the brain. It is to us as if we did not exist for that period of time. No, it is never too late. The time we have here on this journey is precious. Much too precious to be wasted or to do something that makes it to us, not even exist.

BoPuppy, thank you for your post; I feel the exact same way. It's just nice to see it in someone else's writing.
