Blackout

Ever wonder why people blackout when they are drunk? It's an incredibly scary experience. I hate losing time & not knowing what I did or said. I feel so much guilt and shame for everything. I won't even bother to ask the people I was around because I'm afraid of what they'll tell me. Apparently they didn't know I was intoxicated or they would've poked fun at me....as it seems I'm the only one who knows I have a "problem." Instead I exist as though I'm a dog that had an accident on the living room carpet and quit drinking again....hopefully for a VERY LONG TIME.

Hope you can circle the wagons and get every bit of support you can Clownbaby.

Please just keep going at it and choosing not to drink.

I don't really have a plan. I just keep busy and eat a lot of chocolate. I really suck at planning!

blackouts are definitely scary, i've never found being scared of something enough to keep me sober though.

Blackouts are so scary and so dangerous.

I think it's really important to have a plan.

This pretty much lays out how to make a plan Clownbaby

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...ery-plans.html

The best cure for blackouts is abstinence.
I do not miss waking up not knowing what I did the night before.

The easiest way to avoid blackouts is to stop drinking. Guaranteed to never have another blackout.

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but if you don't have strong will power, you might have to get real good at planning, quickly. I think you'll do great. Keep us posted.

Clown, glad to see you back with new resolve.

Blackouts were leading me into terrifying situations. It was such a relief to be free & to not have to worry about what I'd said or done. It's no way to live. You deserve a better life - you're on your way.

Blackouts are disturbing on many levels. You don't know what you don't know.
A plan of some sort is important, or you're just kind of wandering with no direction.
Even if you're not good at it, Dee has given you a link that will tell you how to get started. If you're really serious about giving up black outs, you should read the info - that's a simple way to get going.

Blackouts: alcohol stops the brain from making memories ..

That's what a blackout really is, that's how a medical professional explained it to me. I think it's super scary to think of blackouts in that way.

I know the feeling all too well. Waking up without the anxiety, guilt and shame is a huge motivator for me not to drink.

Definitely make a plan. It doesn't have to be a grand, overwhelming thing...just small steps you are reminding yourself to take to stay sober when the triggers, urges and cravings come. Keep it simple, but above all stick to the plan. That's been my biggest problem. I say I will do all these things, but then when the time comes I don't stick with it. So now part of my plan is how to stick with the plan!! You can do it.

I am so glad to see you Clownbaby.
I have been thinking about you, and wondering how you are.

I ruined my life by drinking and drugging for so long, but ultimately it was the blackouts that frightened me into finally saying OK, no more.
I don't want something in my life that has the power to turn me into a person I don't choose to be.

We don't have to live like that anymore.

How well has this approach worked for you in the past?

Um. Hello! Sorry I slipped away again. I guess I will investigate the planning. I am in dire need of sobriety. I like my memory & I'm tired of the shame and guilt I feel.

You seemed to do pretty well here as a regular contributor clownbaby - why not try that again for a start?
