I am so sorry about your news. I have some liver fibrosis, but it had not progressed to cirrhosis, and my understanding is only a biopsy can stage it. I did have a biopsy. My last ultrasound, almost 2 years ago, no longer showed any signs of fatty infiltration. This meant, by ultrasound alone, liver disease was no longer evident. This was by my liver specialist. Let it be noted, though, my first gastro doc, NOT a liver specialist, incorrectly told me I had cirrhosis. She was out of her depth. So, if you've not had a biopsy, don't rule out a second opinion. Just my personal experience. I should note I was also severely overweight and addressed that. I also had uncontrolled diabetes, now in control, no meds, just diet and activity. So, my issue was a trifecta, not booze alone. All damage the liver.

I have had relapses, so I hope it's still all ok. Don't go doing that. I'm due for a check in June.

I wish you all the best. I've read stories on medical forums from people in decompensated end stage cirrhosis having remarkable recovery with good care and sobriety.

Thanks, Phoebe!

Although progressive, maybe this case can be slowed if you stop drinking and take any meds that are prescribed and talk with a nutritionist!!!!

The title I wrote for this post is wrong (oops!). I'm stage 4 for ALD, and only stage 2 for cirrhosis based on my blood tests, fibroscan results, and symptoms so I'm not decompensated yet. I didn't know there were stages within stages before I posted this. I'm going to end up at stage 4 eventually though.

Thanks to everyone who replied. It sucks because I had good feelings about quitting drinking this time. I have that heart-sinking feeling right now. I screwed up so badly.

**I'm not too sure about the validity of my results as they pertain to specific stages, but there's a lot of damage. My fibroscan was 28kPa, and I think my GGT was 50. Not good.

Are you drinking still?

Vulturine,

My cirrhosis was diagnosed via biopsy and I was told I was in the next to last stage for f cirrhosis. My last fibroscan was 4.3 and ultrasound was normal. :-). I also had multiple issues (weight, alcohol, type 2 diabetes) and I'm definitely way older. I'm simply grateful I have a major reprieve.

That's great Saskia. Remarkable recovery.

No, I stopped drinking 12 days ago. Alcohol honestly scares the crap out of me now.

Drinking scares me too.
I'm glad it's better than you originally thought!

I bet if you wait a few months to do a scan you'll see great improvements!
