Hi, I'm new :)
I'm hoping to meet some like minded people on this site. My drinking is getting out of hand and I need to do something about it. On a normal day I might drink 1-3 glasses of wine but in the last month or so it has gotten up to 4 or more a day. I went out with a friend and had a pretty bad binge, had maybe 8 drinks that day.
Fast forward a few days later to the worst heartburn of my life along with sore throat and coughing. I got worried I might have an ulcer or esophagitis. I have anxiety issues and I doubt the booze is helping.
Honestly I am wanting to stop this stupid behavior. I'm at the age where drinking a lot is starting to show on my face and I look haggard. I also don't want to develop major health problems over this and I'm tired of feeling bad all the time. I've had two or three colds in the last few months alone.
I haven't had a drink for 6 days. My first goal is to make it through a month because I honestly can't think about quitting forever right now.

Welcome to SR! You'll find plenty of people in similar situations as you. It's great that you're taking a step to curb your drinking, especially with that heartburn. I frequently drank even though I have acid reflux, and let me tell you, irritating my gut like that made for some queasy mornings even when I wasn't hungover.
And I find that when it comes to taking alcohol out of your life, it's best to take it day-by-day. It's pretty daunting when you think about it in the long, long term like that. Smaller goals are easier to reach and they make you feel great!

Congratulations. I am new as well. I am working on Day 1 and just trying to make it through the day I also have acid reflux, and am sure cutting out the alcohol will help that tremendously. Going to my first AA meeting tomorrow, quite nervous about it, but excited about hopefully finding someone with a similar story and have that support from someone who understands.

Welcome Zeppo! We are the same age and what you describe (starting to drink more wine on a daily basis) was where I was too but then it got much much worse and so did my depression, anxiety and all over pain, so congrats for starting your journey now before you get to where I was or maybe worse. The first few days without wine may be difficult but every day will get a little easier and you will never regret not drinking.
Welcome, ZenButerfly! Six days is AWESOME!

Welcome! And you are right, its not near as bad.... it's amazing!! I hope that once you get to that month, you'll love sobriety so much you shoot for another month, and just keep going!
Welcome to SR! This is a great place to make yourself at home in recovery.
The links Coldfusion posted I highly recommend you check them out, and join the March class.
I am part of the February class... they have been amazing motivation, inspiration, and strength when I can't find it within myself.
Also, do you have or have you read about or considered a recovery plan? There is a post here somewhere with a link to how to make one.
I would also highly recommend that. It has been the pivot point at what has kept me sober this long after many, many failed attempts at having sobriety stick.
Many warm welcomes.
