I'm scared it's too late

Hi, I've to struggling in recovery for three years. I've been to rehab, counsellors, and AA. I keep failing. I live in a rural area and it's difficult to get to meetings more then a few times per week and then I usually buy booze when I get to town.
I have no friends anymore, everyone in this town knows I'm screwed up.
I'm hoping that this site will be another tool.

Welcome to the family. As long as you're still breathing, it's not too late. You'll find lots of support here. I hope we can help you get sober for good.

Hey Gardengirl, this site is a fantastic tool and you will find many people with who you will relate. We are all here for the same reason. It's easy to feel like the odd man out in the land of "normal" drinkers but here you will find a ton of support.

It's never too late - keep trying different things - hopefully SR will be the one that sticks! Keep reading and sharing. Many stay sober without ever going to an AA meeting. You can do this and will be so happy when you do!

Thanks for encouraging replies. I'm still trying to get a feel for how to use this forum. I'm not very computer savvy.
I feel so incredibly alone right now that ever response is helpful.

Great to meet you, Gardengirl.

I know for sure it's not too late. I drank for decades, always trying to figure out a way to control it. I had to admit that even one drink was not an option. Once that first one was in my system, dangerous things happened. Please keep reading and posting - this is a great place for encouragement.

Hi Gardengirl. Welcome to SR. You will get much support here. After many false starts I'm working on the one that sticks. Commit to quit and make a plan. This site offers so much information and support.

I live in a rural area as well. And I've made a complete fool of myself so many times that I was embarrassed to go out at all. My first 2 weeks of sobriety I didn't go anywhere because I didn't trust myself to go into town without buying alcohol. Fortunately, I had enough food to last that long! Even then I knew I needed a plan before I could go to market. I did it and so can you.

As others have said, it's never really too late as long as you are alive.

Secondly, every time you try sobriety you have clean days, and you can look at what you've done and you are able to learn what works and what doesn't.

I tried for years to quit, and there were times that I gave up on quitting too and succumbed to the illness.

You can get better. Just keep fighting. Slip and fall, but keep trying. We can help you stay sober when you are ready.

The fact that you are trying means that you have hope in there somewhere for a better life. I'm here to tell you that there is a better life on the other side.
