Day 1 and dealing with anxiety

Halfway through day 1 and dealing with that dreaded anxiety that being hungover leaves behind. Any suggestions? I'm looking forward to Day 2.

Remembering That anxious hungover feeling is what has kept me from drinking for 4weeks now. Focus on never feeling that again.

Try to go outside and get some exercise, a short walk, anything. Do some deep belly breathing and go to bed as early as possible to get the day over with. Hate hate that anxiety. We do it to ourselves, ugh! Hang it there!

Remember that it will pass and the anxiety will get better with more sober time.

Yes the anxiety post drinking sucks, especially if you're prone to it without drinking (which I am). Making sure I got quality sleep was a key to my recovery and hunkering down and realizing it would pass also helped.

Hang in there!

Thanks everyone. I am drinking some holy basil tea which is supposed to help with anxiety. I am someone who deals with anxiety when I'm not drinking. I think going to sleep early tonight will help. I really appreciate this community. Thank you

I think drinking water helped me when I felt that hangover anxiety. I hope you feel better as the days go by.

As hard as it is, you just got to ride it out and know that it will pass. Try to relax as much as you can, drink water and try to eat something if you can. John

The best thing anyone told me on day one was, "You never have to feel this way again." I didn't believe them, but it was the truth and I haven't felt that way in three years. So get yourself some tea, a cozy blanket, and just surrender your body so it can heal.

If you enjoy reading, find a great book to get immersed in. Or a trashy book. I find time really goes by fast when I'm in the middle of a good read and I don't even think about drinking. If that's not your thing, then take a walk, exercise, watch a movie, etc. When I was in rehab, they always had chamomile tea on hand -- it helps with anxiety. You can do this!

For me it was drinking Gatorade, short walks outside and relaxing as much as possible. It is tough but it will pass and you never have to feel that way again.

Ugh. That anxiety is the worst! I feel for you. I was just where you are. Hang in there...it gets better & better each day you don't drink. Try taking a nice brisk walk, take a nap & be sure to drink lots of water to flush out the toxins. :-)

Hi BeanieBaby

It helped me to remember that this was a common part of withdrawal and that I'd feel better in a day or two.

Hang in there
